10 planks in the Communist Manifesto

The US has implemented 8 of them…

I’ve got it on a good source that we’ve implemented 8 of these in the US. Maybe someone could explain which 8 of them we’ve implemented & exactly how we’ve done that.

1. Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes.
2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.
3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance.
4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.
5. Centralisation of credit in the banks of the state, by means of a national bank with State capital and an exclusive monopoly.
6. Centralisation of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the State.
7. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the State; the bringing into cultivation of waste-lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan.
8. Equal liability of all to work. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture.
9. Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of all the distinction between town and country by a more equable distribution of the populace over the country.
10. Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children’s factory labour in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production, &c, &c.

“To an extent” but not completely, and to an extent that has changed over the years - all but 1 and 8. But this is no big deal - the Manifesto was an occasional piece, not theoretical.

You’ve lost me Tom. :p Does that mean that we’re Marxists if we think any of these are good ideas?

I found this on the web 6 of Them

BTW - I don’t really believe that we’ve implemented these in the US, and if we have it wasn’t because of Karl Marx

Um, yeah… Biblical taxation… Give to God what is God’s, give to Ceasar what is Ceasar’s? They musta missed that verse.

And the FCC comment, that is sort of funny. I guess they didn’t pay attention to the Janet Jackson/Michael Powell incidents nor the “right” allowing deregulation of the media… Red herring.

Then the farm comments… Hippies are the ones running the small organic farms and ADM is supporting the repubs significantly more than the dems in campaign finance… Whatever.

I don’t mean to be a fan boy of any side here, but the link Toker posted is pretty poorly thought out.

How about this link (they are all over the net) - All 10 have been implemented

This is why this is a stupid topic. The Manifesto was written as a piece for an occasion - not as a theoretical statment - it's not Capital after all - and you will read in the text that they said that these goals were generally applicable, but subject to change due to local differences, and in any case don't amount to communism. The person who makes the argument on your link is just shallow and driven by an ideological goal, and can't assess the items for what they are.

People are such morons - um, I mean, they don't think very well. :)

Cynic hat on... I have come to believe a HUGE majority do not think AT ALL. They just respond to the stimulus provided by the idiot boxes in their living rooms.

I hate TV.

TG -- what was I thinking? The cynic hat is ALWAYS on! :D

Tom - so you don’t think Marxists in the US (Democrats) could have read the Manifesto & decided that they wanted to sneak the 10 planks into our system of government? That’s what these guys (nuts) are saying? Of course, you can prove that we (you know the Marxists) couldn’t have put some of these things, like the Progressive income tax, because of the timeline, i.e., we made income tax progressive before the Manifesto.

TG - Madonna doesn’t let her kids watch TV. She’s an authority.

Isn’t anyone curious why & from who I got off on this topic?

Oh the wife and kids watch. I just find other things to do... like swap lies with you guys on the forums and play music.

Shocking stuff Mike, fancy, abolishing child labour and introducing free education. Truly scandalous!

Baby wants attention?

Is there ever any other reason for your posts Michael? ???

Nope, can’t say I care, but I can say that I agree with Beefy - free public education and the abolition of child labor is just wrong, wrong, wrong.

Me - need attention, you’ve got to be kidding. I’m under-appreciated but I don’t need no attention

However, I now have several clues about who “mrs soul” might be

I’m not going to say who I got this crap (that’s being nice) about Marxism from but I thought some of you might be able to guess. Hint - there’s only one person I know with such extreme/wacko views (and it isn’t Tom).

Well, thanks! I prefer to think of myself as “out of the ordinary.” :)

So, who then?

I went back & looked at mrs soul’s posts. Several of them were “sass”. Does anyone know what that stands for?

If you think it’s me Michael, then you’re wrong.

Go figure.

…The_Real_Mrs_Soul

Ok, I think I know where you’re going with this Toke.

Whether you’re right or not I’d hate to say, but if I think you’re going where I think you’re going, I’d say you’re wrong.

First point: The “Mrs Soul” that have appeared recently have been unregistered, so that means anyone could have posted them.

Secondly, if we’re thinking of the same person, I really don’t think so.

I don’t think anyone could accuse me of being a member of his fan club, but I think if he had anything to say to you, he’d say it up front, and not hide behind a pseudonym.

No - it’s not Mac (it’s not his style). I’m not going anywhere’s with it - I’d just like to know what “sass” means.
