'67 Fender BassMan Amp

11 Days to do the Deal…

Hi n-Trackers:

I’ve been busy…
I got the right eye operated on and I believe I’m finally able to see…
The recovery is still taking shape…
I hope to return to work after the surgeon does a report and certifies me to drive…
We’ll see…,

Anyway, bob has negotiated a deal for a '67 Blackfaced Bassman Amp…

We have to make up a Parts Order to update the 43 years of use it had endured…
It doesn’t look like there’s much work that it needs…
This is the initial nullPhoto Session of what the amp looks like when we picked it up from the young owner…

Bill…

Hey Bill, was wondering where you’d gone to. Hope everything is OK.

Nice looking amp.

Hi Mark:

I have been struggling with this one…
The eyes are seeing better, however, I find my arms aren’t long enough to focus correctly, to see the newspaper…
If I find I need corrective lenses to bring my vision up-to-code, I may ask if I am a candidate for Laser Surgery…
We’ll see…

Over here, we are into the winter stretch now…, There appears to be no heat from the sun…
Too low, in the sky, now…
The daytime temperatures are as cold as the nighttime temperatures. The outside temperature is some -16c - -17c now…
That isn’t cold if you are inland and away from the ocean…
However, the heat coming from the water makes the water look as if it’s boiling…
The windchill rating for the past couple of days has been brutal…
It feels like some -45 - 47c…
My furnace is cycling at better than 60% ON… Now…
We are using heating fuel like it’s outta style now… The demand on power is the same, as well…

It can only get better…
I hope…

Bill…

I can’t even begin to imagine temperatures that cold.
Wow.

As for eye surgery I looked into it before I left the UK (there’s in pun in there somewhere). The old age thing is to do with the muscles in the eyes no longer being able to pull the eye into focus.
All they can do to “fix” it is artificially distort the focus on one eye so it focusses at at a closer distance leaving the other alone.
Of course this messes with your distance vision (and apparently mine is very good), so I went for the glasses approach (such a PITA to remember them though).

I was told of an emerging technology (some kind of implant) that will fix the age problem.
It was a little way off in the UK but may have arrived in your parts.
As for coming getting it to NZ, that could be a while to wait.

Hey Bill. Glad the eye op’ went ok.
Mark! We had a five day stretch of minus 19 in Wales over Christmas.

Just the thought of that makes me shiver! Winter here now....26C today :)

Hope the eyes get better Bill, I have similar issues but somehow laser surgery doesn’t appeal to me. Like Mark, I’m on glasses and I also forget where I left them frequently, of course, if I’m not wearing them, I can’t see to find them :)

Hope the eyes get better Bill, I have similar issues but somehow laser surgery doesn't appeal to me. Like Mark, I'm on glasses and I also forget where I left them frequently, of course, if I'm not wearing them, I can't see to find them :)

It drives me crazy to have to wear them. I only need them for close up or detail work, but I have this crazy little theory thing that starts on the premise that no one has ever been prescribed glasses, worn them for a while and then the optician has said "that's fine, your eyes are better now, no need to wear them any more". In other words they treat a symptom rather than cure it.

I kinda feel that the moment I give in it will be a downward slope so I fight back. Keep those muscles working to the best of their ability. So I only wear glasses when I really need to. I try reading without them whenever I can, etc. So far it's working!

I’m the opposite. I need them for driving but not reading. I have a bllod clot behind my eye that needs removing…but, I can’t even bear someone touching my eyes never mind aiming a laser at them :)

Hi All:

Thanks for all the support…
You must be talking about someone else…
:)
I’m only 23…
I just recovered from the big birthday party…
:)
I promised myself I wouldn’t abuse myself like I did that night…
 The kitchen still ain’t cleaned up…
There’s bottle caps everywhere…
They don’t take them at the re-cycle plant…

Anyway, I go for the Big Report tomorrow…
We’ll see what he has to say… I hope that he gives me a good report so I can go back to work…
and I am able to drive…
We’ll see…

Recentlly, I’ve been wearing Dollar-store specks for reading and close-up work…
My arms feel better for me deciding to ware them…
However, they are bifocals…
They don’t work well for what I need them for…
So, I’ll look for a a pair that I can use, that are better…
We’ll see…

Anyway, this past week has been brutal…
We came to with-in a fraction of a degree of record low temperatures…
I don’t envy anyone who lives close to open water with below zero temps…
Any wind-chill and humidity is a killer on the bones… You see, over here, we are not equipped for weather extremes in temperatures…
As everyone is aware, the new homes are all “Green”…
The demand on power is huge…
The power fails…
We don’t survive long with no power…

We’ve been following the weather in North Western Europe…
I’ve never heard of that kind of weather, like that, over there…
I think I could take 26c weather for a couple of days…
:)

I’ve read all your replies… I agree with your replies…
I’ve had glasses sense I was 12-13…
AND constricting the eyes is very negative…
I guess that why I’d like to have laser work if he says I need any more correction… I’ve spent many years hauling loads up-and-down the highways…
I considered myself as being a night-time driver…
I’m a multi-multi-million mile driver…
However, one shouldn’t boast about that as much as being lucky… AND…
You know what ?
I still drive for a living…

You know gents…
How fortunate we are to be able to complain about how and what we see-and-hear…
When there are many in the world are not able to see-or-hear…
Well…

Bill…

Bill..

That Bassman looks worn and it might shock you. I'm concerned for your welfare. You should box it up and send it to me in exchange for a Line-6 Spyder. :)

Hi Unknown1:

Things are moving along, in the restore/repair shop…
Bob and I picked up that Martin D20-12 string guitar from the Folklore Center Guitar Shop yesterday… I updated the Photo Blog yesterday…
The guitar has one side blemish under the neck… Elsewhere the Guitar looks to be in perfect condition for a 50 year old instrument…
We have been working on the Ampeg B15N Bass Amp…
The cabinet is dismantled and awaiting reassembly…
We need to get a Cabinet Logo for the Baffle Board… The original one has a cracked corner…
The power supply has been rebuilt…
The main capacitors have been replaced…
It’s almost ready to be fired up…
We’ll see how the day goes…
I need to go to the Eye Doc this morning… I hope I get a good report…
We’ll see…

We have been spared yet again…
The weather blew up through the Bay of Fundy…
We were on the mild side of the storm…
and we’re gettin rain, yet again…

Anyway, it’s off to see the Doc…

Bill…

edit

We are considering building a Cabinet for that Bass Amp from an on-line kit…
to complete the Bass Amp…
No sure yet, but WELL…
????
What-a-Find…
EH…?
500.00 loonies bought it…
Right in the Ball Park…
I would say…

Hi Gents:

Finally, we got the '67 Fender Bassman re-comissioned…

We left some of the MoJo on it’s appearence…
A '67 Fender Amp needs to look like a working Fender Amp…

DSCF1420

I hope that Leo would approve, if’n he was still around…

DSCF1423

It was a real nice project, All-in-All…
It wasn’t cheap…
We replaced the power transformer and 99% of the resistors as well as we replaced the components in the power supply… and put a new set of output tubes into the project…

Here’s the link to the photo blog for anyone who might be interested in the project…
