A little bit of Hendrix for ya

Red House

Here’s my take on Red House. This is a Lonestar Strat into my new Axe-Fx modeler recorded direct for guitar and bass. Drums were done with Toontrack Superior 2.0. Tear it a new hole!

Get a real amp!

Kidding. That’s great. One thing I’ve always wondered. Isn’t part of his sound the fact that he tuned low? Listen to how much the pitch moves around when he plays, due to the slackness of the strings:

With the normal tension you actually sound more like a Chicago player to me. :agree:

Hendrix (like Trower) tuned down a half step (sometimes a whole step), had low action and used thicker strings.
My intent with this little project wasn't to mimic his articulation and technique as much as I was trying to cop his tone which the Axe-Fx is absolutely amazing at doing.
I have a Plexi and a JCM-800 for A/B purposes, and other than the absence of moving real air through a 1960A, this modeler nails it.

That’s without a doubt some of the greatest blues riffin by Jimi.
Great pickin Flanders, sweet!

Had a few bowls of Permian West Texas Chile with cheddar-bread and a couple of Sam Adams last nite....been 'moving air' all day....and the haze ain't purple.

Why that’s flabbergasting!

Oh I should have seen that coming.

Really great guitar tone without an amp. I normally bring a bass amp to my gigs so the band can hear it. I bought a Pandora effect unit so I may start using it live. The sound is great and that is one less thing to haul.
