A beat is the entire instrumental portion of a hip hop track.

Individual drum hits that you can purchase are more commonly referred to as oneshots.

I sell beets means you’re a gardener trying to stay off welfare.

I sell carrots means something totally different.

I wanna know if anyone actually makes money “selling beats” - gotta be one of the greatest scams of recent years.

That thing Phoo linked to might be BS (as with any "make $$$ in the music industry" book), but hip hop producers sell beats for large sums (and points) all the time. Oftentimes they never even meet the artist face to face.

Even new dudes selling beats on the internet like Youngfyre are making singles for Top 20 records.
