ASIO setup w/ Soundblaster Live

Experienced Help Requested

I am having a challenging time trying to configure my input from my SoundBlaster Live card to operate properly. As you might know this audio card has front inputs for many devices. One of which is the 1/4" mic/line input. I am attempting something rather simple to start with. But have had much misfortune ever since I’ve upgraded my processor to the AMD X2 4200.

I have no problem getting sound out. Both the rear speaker outputs and the front headphone out work great. Also no problems with the front MIDI inputs.

My trouble is just that I’m not getting sound in through the front mic/line input.

Anyone that has dealt with this issue, or is experienced with the SoundBlaster Live (Audigy) card is very welcome to offer assistance.

BTW. I’m ising the KX Audio Driver KX Project.

Thanks in advance!

check the ide cable that goes from the card to the panel where the headphones and line in or mic input goes, that is usualy the problem

I found the KX driver setup rather
complex. I would try to un-install
KX and see if mic/line works without
KX - If so, you may have to go into that crazy
matrix setup - and connect (by drawing
lines from whatever they call the
mic/line) to the inputs of the other
thingy. Sorry, it’s been a long time
since I used it.
There (was)is a pretty good
support forum for KX.
Again, it’s probably in that matrix
connect mess. Once you figure that out
though, it did work pretty good.

Yeah I agree. I had a SB Live years and years ago and it worked fine with the Windows drivers. I had a foray into the KX project drivers for a while but found no real benefit despite much complication. Try the Windows drivers and see how it goes.

I Have used the kX drivers for a few years now. Like anything else I found it confusing in the beginning but now I can usually make it do what I want.

What version of kX are you using?
Do you have a custom DSP setup or are you using the default mixer?
Have you download Lex Nahumery’s ProFx plugins?

With the ProFX plugins it would be fairly simple to figure out your inputs. your mic2/line2 input, for instance could be selected from a dropdown in the SRC plugin, while your other mic/line input could be selected from an ADC plugin.

I won’t babble on and on unless you want to give it a try.

Hi Doug,

I’m using the newest release of the KX (Version 5.10.0.3537). Who is Lex Nahumery? And where would I find his plugin(s)? It sounds good, and I’d like to give that a try… Please enlighten me more!

3539 is actually the newest version out, although I use 3534f, an older version, because it works the best for me.

Stick with 3537 if you don’t have any reason to change. There were some people, myself included, that had problems with pops and clicks on playback with 3537. If that isn’t a problem for you-don’t change versions at the moment.

Someone much smarter than me. He is a kX user and sometimes programmer.
ProFx for versions 3534f, 3537 and 3538 are here:

http://members.home.nl/nahutec/ProFx/profx3x.htm

Read through the whole page to learn about the effects. His link says

The zip file is actually called “ProFx308_34f.zip”, but my guess is that he made this download compatible with 3534f through 3537.

Unzip the file to:
C:\Program Files\kX Project\3537

Right click the kX manager and choose "kX DSP"

Right click on the kX DSP screen and choose “Clear DSP” (everything goes away)

----You always have the option of right clicking kX DSP and choosing “Reinitialize DSP” to get back the default mixers.-----

Right click the blank DSP screen and choose "Register Plugin (Dane,RIFX,KXL)…"

Browse to the folder where you put “ProFx308_34f.kxl”.

You should get a message about how well everything is going.

Now you need to insert the plugins one by one, you will need;

3 instances of ProFxSrc
(1. choose FXBus 0/1 for one of them for audio playback)
(2. choose FXBus 2/3 for one of them for MIDI playback)
(3. choose mic2/line2 for your LiveDrive input)

1 instance of ProFxADC
(for your Mic or Line input)

1 instance of ProFxMx6
(a mixer to mix all these different streams and send them to the right outputs)
1 instance of Epilog
(for your physical outputs and MME & ASIO outputs. NOTE: You can replace the Epilog with ProFxK1LT & ProFxASIO)

Things should end up similar to this:

That’s enough for one night.
