And if the inserts are +4 and the inputs of the soundcard are -10? What i can do?
Just turn down as your mixer will be hotter than the input of the soundcard can handle at 0db. No big deal so long as you pay attention to the meters in your sound card and n-track.
Thanks!
But that can result in loss some dynamic range, or quality?
Eh, I suppose as +4 gives you more head room. At the end of the day, if all you have is a -10db card, then the gain coming out of a preamp at -10 will be no different than something at +4 that is turned down. Volts is volts.
Thanks!
Just to end, suppose i forgot to control the +4 output and the -10db input receive for some long time the clipped +4 signal, there exist some danger of damage to the circuits of the -10db input?
No, it shouldn’t damage the input, according to Mac at audiominds. We were actually discussing plugging a power amp speaker output into a line input – a terrible idea – but it turns out that according to the math it takes nearly 100W to damage a typical line input resistor. Of course, don’t rely on this and plug your 50W Marshall head into your line inputs!
