Brent Mason

For those of you who don’t know…

Decided to move the discussion here on session pickers.
For those of you who don’t know who Brent Mason is …
The Brent Mason
Click on “Hot Wired” - I can’t even think that fast let alone play that fast.

Looks like he’s just doin’ his own thing now Bill…

Brent is just mind-blowing. Just an awesome picker.

I’m with you Poppa… I can’t fathom being able to play like that.

Hi Gents:

Thanks for pulling this thread over here…
I’m up early…
First day back at work…
I’m in need of returning to a routine… It’ll probably take the rest of the week to settle down.

I’ll open that link after I get back this morning.

You’ve be “That Close” to the business of TuneTown…

Chinwagging with RADAR Wayne… over the years…
He would say, there isn’t any work in TuneTown…
as you call it Poppa Willis…
You take your work there…
I believe it’s because players writers and producers and all gather there in hopes of finding work… If you posses the skills that the industry requires you might find work…
BUT…
you have to go knocking on doors that may-or-may not open easily…

I’ve heard it this way…
Your as good as the last job you did…
meaning…
The minds of people in the music business can be ruthless…
and …
you have to be tough just to be around it…

There’s nothing that is easily found in the music business…
if you want to make a career out of it…

I think you gotta go to bed with it on your mind and then wake up with it there, as well…

On the negative side…
It can be a disappointing racket to be in…

Motown had a good Kick-at-the-Can…
There have been lots of memories…
But only a few earned a living from it and even fewer survived from it…
I speak of it only lightly…
Lots of people know the real stories…

I got to get ready to put the morning in…

Bill…

It would be a great evening to see that Quartet at Third and Lindsey…
or where ever it is Downtown…
They play there quite often…
They’re playing there on the 9th of September…
Then it appears that he’s off to Ireland for a bunch of appearances…
It seems as though the studio work is almost at a standstill…
if these guys are out playing live-on-the-stage work…
Michael Rhodes, Paul Franklin, Brent Mason, Who’s the other guy??
I don’t have the page up now…
It’s sold out…
anyway…
So I may as well not go out to the hanger and fire up the Learjet on the 9th to run down there to see them play…
I wouldn’t be able to get in to see them…
:p
 It’s Sold Out… Poppa Willis…
They’re Sold Out…
Sigh…
It’s a 10.00
ticket…
Where else could you see that kind of stuff for 10 bucks ????

:p

Somehow, I pictured him to be younger than he is…
The BIO says he played with Chet on his last CD

and…
when he was 18… and, he’s been doing session work for 20 years…
I guess you can’t be younger than that

Bill…

lol - That’s a lot of talent for ten bucks. Then again Neil Young could walk on stage and you’d have to pay 200 to get out!

Speaking of talent…

I’ve been listening to Alison Krauss & Union Station this morning. Jerry Douglas deserves all the awards he’s been given for his Dobro work. Amazing picker… holy cow… Of course that whole group is just freakin’ awesome…

My folks have met Alison and the guys a few times at festivals. They tell me they’re also a great bunch of people too. That’s always a plus…

D

She just did an CD with Robert Plant.
I’ve always liked her. (and Union Station)

I find it amazing that these musicians can find one-another …
and then go on to do studio work and produce the incredible music that’s unique to only their flavor…

I don’t think it’s by accident…

I’m not quite sure how that process takes shape…

Bill…
