crash with asio, volume envelopes
hi guys, just wondering if any of you guys are having problems recording with the new built, 2309 crashes when i record with the line 6 asio, while 2308 does not, also the volume envelopes are still not working, there are a few song id recorden with earlier versions on ntrack and have volumen decrese or increse by the volume envelopes, and its not working with these one, any thoughts?

well the asio recording is ok, but the envelopes are still pretty much unusable dont know if there’s a way around it, any ideas if this will be fix soon?
check it out, in this screenshot the volume envelope is all the way down and there is still a lot of sound coming out, when it should be totally quiet…

noup gave those settings a try, still volume envelopes are just for show right now. dr. j, those setting are working for you?
your screenshot shows a volume envelope, but i cannot see clearly if you have activated automation - if automation is off, could you take another screenshot during playback with it on so that i can how low the audio goes where the volume envelope is at its lowest - could you please set the scale of the output VU meter to ‘detailed’ and the range to -90db

Once upon a time envelope drawing and fader automation were two separate animals entirely. Has this changed? I would test it myself but n keeps crashing… this use to be such a great program… sigh

I'm on my laptop here... so the crashing may be a setup issue with it. Stay tuned...
It use to be though, that you could draw volume envelopes with the rat and record fader movements separately.

ive got so used to the volume sailing through an envelope without doing anything unless automation was on (in some prior builds)that it is now second nature - i find when using envelopes, using automation to see how the faders move in responce to envelope curves helpfull - horse’s for course’s -
you have to have “allow automated volume/pan for wave tracks” ticked on prefs “options” page - if not ticked track volume will not follow envelope - even if automation is switched on in toolbar -
BTW in the screenshot (tested before uploading) i get no output at all with the output VU meter scale set to -90db. what happens below that we will never know cos the meter scales dont go any lower -

well no, i dont think automation is on, never used it, but yeah i thought that was something complety separate from the envelopes, besides on the tutorials of n-track theres no mention of having to turn on automation, but well where is that option?, i can’t find it.

I see your print screen but it’s kind of small… When posting an image see if you can get up to something larger than 800x600 or maybe 1024x768 pixels… That would help… to see your image… Thanks…
When you drag the volume node down to the bottom of the track’s timeline… do you see a Volume/level box (pop yp screen) that says infinity? if you don’t see inf. then you may have to grab the volume node and lower it till you see the inf. in the (pop up box) At that point you should hear no level from that track…

yes is set to -inf, found the automation also… no change in nothing, is this problem just with me or does anybody else have it?, cuz i use to think this was an error in the code of n-track, long with the not being able to record mono to 24 bit on wdw or mme, anyways, heres the screen shot and yes the envelope is set to -inf. but even if it wasnt it should be so loud… at the time is being played bck…
Hey Daldo, I just finished spending some time with my setup. At first I got exactly what you described (a signal on the channel with the muted section). But then I checked my nodes and found that even though my first node that I pulled down to inf looked like it had gone to the bottom, it reported at -30db. When I finally got the 2 nodes to be at inf (which took some doing - flattening envelope, then redoing), there was no signal in that section. So I would suggest you double-double check both of those nodes for inf.
It also showed me that the problem with grabbing nodes at the bottom has still not been totally corrected, as I had previously reported. That -30db node was not grabbable (zoomed in both horizontally and vertically, increased the size of the nodes, etc.). I ended up flattening the volume envelope and re-doing it.
BTW, I also discovered one of the changes from build 2309 and 2311 - the popups of the icons on the toolbars. I was looking for the automation icons and discovered only a handful of the icons had popups (with 2309). After installing 2311, all the popups are back.

mmm i double check man i zoom as much as i could, but still there is sound, also the automation does nothing for me… i have no clue whats going on…

Happy to see that I am not the only one with this error, and no, it did not help using the default settings, neither has it been corrected in the latest builds (I am using build 2311, I think).
This should be corrected rather soon, I hope. In the meantime I have fallen for an offer to buy Cubase 4 Studio at half the retail price. I should be able to pick it up any day now.
I am not leaving n-Track, as I think it is a great program, but I am widening out my options and keep using Cubase LE (upgrading to Cubase Studio 4) and Samplitude 8 SE (upgrading to Samplitude 9 SE soon) along with n-Track (upgrading constantly).
I like n-Track for its ease of use and plentiful possibilities, I like cubase for its extensive midi editing capabilities (n-Track has become a lot better in that department, and faster, too!), and Samplitude for the sound quality and mixdown facilities.

Wdm mono 24bt rec setting here, automatic crash! Have to set rec to stereo 2 tracks and disable recording from one channel to get mono.
Total loss of asio recording on everything (sounds like everything is pumped to the max and distorted, tried every setting to no avail).
asio4all record works, but stutters with all apps (dropouts) tried all buffer sizes, no change.
Gone back to using Wdm with the settings as above, latency very low and no problems but only after unchecking keep audio devices open. This all started for no reason last week.
Loss of hair in last week has rendered me bald!

Edit, not sure what the problem is here, but am thinking it’s the Vista beta drivers for the E-Mu 0404.
Since I switched to V-5 I no longer get a popup to tell me what the volume is when I place the cursor over the volume node. Is there someplace to turn this off and on? I get the popup tips on the toolbar.

i think MME is 16bit only -
24bit WDM Realtek on board will not record at 24 bit same for a lot of other on board drivers supplied with older PCz even if it says it can in input settings box (N will give a CANNOT OPEN WAVE INPUT error to prove it cant)-
newer Laptops like the SONY VAIO range use Windows XP OEM version, this nersion oF Windows has no provision for audio at all, audio is controlled by what the manufacturer (like Sony) install, to replace Windows audio Sony install the ‘Yamaha sound system’ - some music apps cannot work at all on a VAIO as they are look for the Windows audio and it just not there - strange that WMP finds it and plays OK ? -
Soundblasters need a setting change, in SELECT INPUT FORMAT box that pops when you click on input VU meter - when you change from 16 to 24 bits the centre box opens - you need to set it to the middle of the three choices in box -
NODES - if node is dragged down till it just sits in track seperator and mouse is let go, it seems that it is locked there and further downward draging has no effect - if IN ONE GO the node is dragged right down untill it moves no more keep dragging downward untill cursor is well into lower track/timeline and release mouse it should do it -
tooltips is time axis i have ticked for ON in prefs, but XML file created by N when it closes down shows them as OFF ? one foe Flavio to sort out -
