This will be a good “Building” year for Pittsburg, I think… If they come back and win this series they could make it tough for any team in the league… The Door is open… Ottawa, is just that tough… That’s what I saw in that opening game… That west coast game was the game-of-the Playoffs… I couldn’t stay awake to see it… I saw the first few minutes… and then the lights went out… Toooo bad…
I would say the Hockey fans here on the East Coast are divided between the Leafs and the Habs… in that order… With both of them gone now there is no team that they’d be loyal to… except a Cannuck team, till they’re all gone… But here in Crosby’town they just want Crosby to make a good showing while he’s on the ice, and not get injured… Well… You know… Crosby is a Hab’s Fan… He would have gone to that team in a heartbeat if the draft would have gone that way… But Crosby got drafted to the right team, in my opinion… Good-for-Him… and the league…
Here in the “Q” League… the Mooseheads won game 4… But I’d say it’s all over for them but the crying… The Maineacks may be the team-to-beat in the League… They have good coaching… I think… The Mooseheads could win game 5 just for the fans… Lewiston may just want to win at home… That would be good for their ticket sales…
The guy I work with don’t see IT that way… But isn’t it all for the bucks? Well… Hey… it’s nice to bring home the bragg’in rights, as well…
Bill…
Bucks and bragging rights, in that order!
Game 5 is on right now at the Metro Center… My money is on the Mooseheads… Then it’s back to Lewiston, Maine for game 6… and the series winner for Maine… and the hometown fans… It’s better for the win at home and fan support and ticket sales.
Bill…
Well, the might Flint Generals managed 5 shots in periods 2 and 3 last night, and lost 5-0 to the Kalamazoo Wings.
But the game is on right now at Perani arena, about 1 mile from me, and I’m missing it!
I could pay 6 bucks to watch it on internet here:
http://208.67.186.249/b2networks.aspx
Nah. I’ll read about it in the papers in the morning…
Go Mooseheads!
You know Tom S… Some of these kids are gonna be the future draft picks of the NHL… After they get drafted their fans will have to pay big bucks to get the chance to see them play their game.
The Mooseheads went down last night. They lost 5 - 1 I don’t know if they use the ice over there for anything else… but if they don’t they got my permission to shut the compressors off and put that energy on my power account… Maybe… next year… We’ll see… I think Vancouver woke the Stars up last night…
Bill…
[EDIT]
I like that logo… neat…
I still think the Canucks are going to do it (in 7).
Flint lost, going down 2 games to 1 - but at least they won one game in the series.
If I was a hocky fan I might be a bit upset right now.
Whatever happened… I’m back at tracking…
What do you know?? TRACKING… OoHh…MY Head…
Anyway, I wanted to see that Ottawa/Pittsburg game…
I got soo involved with working on these tracks-and-editing-and-all that I didn’t see a minute of that game. What a shame. I heard once that Crosby was in the sin-box, and they were ahead 1-0 then… But I lost all time after that.
Bill.
Crosby got the game winner about 1/2 way through the 3rd. 4-3, series 1-1. Good game, very good game.
The islanders beat the sabres in another good game - Dipietro was back in goal from a concussion absence for the islanders, and ted nolan is one helluva coach.
The “Talk” at the coffee shop this morning is… They shouldn’t put so much pressure on the “C” Kid… and… They seem to be giving too-too much credit on the “C” Kid for his play making… and assists-and-all… I over heard one of the guys saying he was at the other end of the ice when one goal was scored… how could he have gotten an assist for that goal?
Anyway, they won one the road…
Bill…
Yes, they’re marketing crosby - I hope he understands that, and I hope it doesn’t ruin his game. Still, he seems a very level-headed guy, and has handled it well so far. No way they’re going to get past NJ, but who thought they’d get this far? Remember when Yzerman came to Detroit? It took them years to build a good team around him. Same thing will happen in this case.
I hope!
Still, he and Malkin and Roberts make a great line to watch.
Hi Tom S:
Hockey has squeaked past the players strike… It’s debatable weather hockey is better now that there’s a salary cap… With the new rules I’d say the game is faster paced now… and they can’t argue too much with the second Referee… … at least, that’s what I see… They have to “Curb” some of the cheap shots, so the players don’t get injured… Fighting is somewhat part of the game… They had better not play too hard with trying to remove it from the game… Long suspensions will “Fix” that eventually… The benches will take care of that when the players find they are unable to dress up for the suspensions…
You can’t ask for better/consistent players than some of these senior guys around the league… I still remember that Montreal team… I don’t remember how many years in a row they took the Stanley Cup… They used to come down here to the Metro Center to do their Pre-season try-outs… They’d be here for the month of August…
The only thing is… the average fan don’t make enough money to see many more than a couple of games a season… If the NHL ever comes here people will be hanging on to their recycle trash, to save up for a game… What a way to go…
Bill…
Well, the Flint Generals are out after a hard fought 6 game series that could have gone their way. Entirely enjoyable, and it looks like the team will be around next year with new owners. “Oh, the good old hockey game, it’s the best game you can name…”
Thanks TomS:
What a great photo you posted there…
NOW… I want ta hear a “Stompin’ Tom Cover” of that tune… from you… I’ll be lookin’ for it before the street lights come on tonight… Get busy…
I played on the same stage with him on a CBC Show/Series produced in Halifax in the late '60’s early '70’s called “Countrytime” The Show was recorded every Sunday in front of a live audience and went “Live-to-Tape”… I was on a “Guest Stage” on that series with a “Front”… “Gerry Cole and The RoadMasters” of the day… My brother was working with the CBC and doing Audio-and-Lighting… The series followed Hockey Night in Canada…It was a 26 week series… It ran for several years till the CBC powers-that-be decided that it had run it course…
What a great time slot it was for a series like that… We had 2 - 2.5 million viewers every Saturday night.
I’m sure outta step at predicting series winners this Stanley Cup Playoffs… It’s a good thing I didn’t have any money on my teams… I’d have the booky’s knock’in on my door…
Bill…
It’s going to be Detroit and Buffalo, I think. I say that because I’m a wings fan, and my wife is a die hard sabres fan - so much so that her father made me wear a sabres tie at our rehersal - given that he was the minister, I couldn’t say no.
Yep, I’ve got a cover of that song in the works, with my kids singing. Might take a couple of weeks.
AlRight:
I’ll work at holding my breath…
I think I heard you talk about that Sabre’s Tie Story before… What a shame… I feel sorry for you, that you had to endure that…
It’s sortta like steppin in cowpies without wearing cowpie boots…
Well…
Stompin Tom’s home is Skinner’s Pond… Way up on the west end of Prince Edward Island… What an entertainer, he was/is… One-of-a-Kind…
Him and Jerry (the front I worked with) would disappear from the set… No one knew what shape they would return in for doing the live show… on Show Days…
Stompin’ Tom became sort of a recluse… returning back home to Skinner’s Pond… Jerry has been diagnosed with Colon Cancer… He has good days and not so good days… It flairs up from time-to-time… The Guitar Player we had back then is not with us anymore. The Steel Guitar Player lives in Fredricton New Brunswick… I get mail from him at least every week… We had various drummers… All World Class… What a great time IT Was…
Bill…
Hey, did you see that Crosby was playing with a broken foot for the last 2 1/2 weeks of the season and the first round of the playoffs? Stats with the broken foot:
"Five goals and nine assists in his final 11 regular season games and three goals and two assists in five playoff games."
Almost as good as that guy who broke his ankle in the finals and scored the winner…when was that? I was about 2…
Ah, yes, Bobby Baun, 1964, game six, tied the series, playing against some team of reds from the motor city…
Hi TomS:
I wasn’t aware of that that… However, what I saw of his playing it looked as though something wasn’t right with him… I just saw Tampa Bay loose the game with New Jersey. I think they ran out of steam… Brad Richards looked pretty good on his shifts… Calivire? is that how his name is spelt? He played a great game… They came close, but they played like a whipped team…
O.K. I got two loonies to put on a team that’ll take the Stanley Cup… Who’s IT gonna BE?
" Do you know my friend Stanley? " What a great add… The CBC is carrying that one… (advertisement)
Bobby Baun… I don’t recall him… But he had to have played on one of the “Original Six”… Could he have played on the Toronto Maple Leafs?.. Or… The Blackhawks? Just guessing…

Baun was one of the hardest and cleanest hitters of his time. He wasn’t much of an offensive threat as a defenceman, never scoring more than 20 points in a season in the NHL. His highest single-season goal total was eight in 1959-60. However, Baun will forever be remembered for scoring the overtime winner in game six against the Detroit Red Wings in the 1964 playoffs on April 23. Earlier in that same game, he had had his ankle broken. He then returned from his injury in overtime to score the game winner. The Leafs won the next game, game seven, 4-0 for their third consecutive Stanley Cup. |

Hi TomS:
What a great Hockey Story, there. My favorite Hockey Hero is The Rocket Richard… If you ever saw the story that was done on him, over his Hockey career and playing with the Montreal organization you would see some of the dedication and sacrifices the early players put into their game.
It seems as though the present-day players don’t tolerate the abuse they get on the ice like they did way-back-when… It seems as though the players of today get wound up taking these performance enhancing drugs and then they get suspensions for being under the influence… after being forced to take the test…
What’s the story on the player that got suspended just the other week? Is that gonna hurt his NHL Career? and… Should it?
