A new music video by yours truly
Well I finially finished that song that I had posted here a while back. I have turned it into a music video and you can watch it on YouTube by either going to my web site, or clicking here Change Agent.
The video is a political satire which is a first for me. As I mentioned before, the music of the song has been sitting around, unfinished since the early 1970’s and I decided that it finally needed to be finished. For quite sometime, I’ve been trying to come up with some theme to complete the song, and it recently came to me - CHANGE! I had some help with the lyrics from Barack Obama.
I hate to say it but the audio was recorded using Reaper. I play all the instruments except for the drums which are from the Sony Vitale Collection, which recently purchased.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I had fun putting it together.
You don’t really buy the “Obama=change” thing do you? I don’t mean to be cynical, but Edwards was the only one telling the truth - no matter how good Obama’s intentions are, until we can eliminate the distortions to the process of democratic discourse caused by the “money=speech” thing, Washington will continue to promote and protect the interests of money and corporations. Obama will never have the power to do that, nor will he have the know-how or the guts to try. I certainly do wish he really represented change, and I support him (now that Edwards is out) but…it isn’t going to be a revolution…only a moderate swing in the right direction, which is the left…many progressives are going to be disappointed in 8 or 9 years…
That aside, you did a great job with this one, and I always like it when you do your stuff so much more than when to do that other person’s stuff!
Tom - of course I don’t buy it - that’s why the video is satire.
I’m poking fun at all of them, particular Obama.
I guess I was a little too subtle?
My apologies Mr Soul, I haven’t watched your video, and as I’m on dial-up, I probably never will.
But on the subject, strangely enough, a couple of nights ago I watched Alien 2 yet again. Earlier that evening I’d watched a John McCain speech on TV.
That night, I had a dream of the lump on John McCain’s face erupting at his inauguration speech, and the creature within devouring everyone in Washington.
If only it were true!
Anyway, irrelevant I know, sorry.
I really enjoyed the video - nice cuts on thew facial expressions - good job on the tune too!

Now that would make a good video clip!!!
Thanks for watching/listening.
Hi Mr Soul:
I got your mail with the YouTube link and all…
I wish I had A Hi-speed connection to the Internet, to use…
American Government is pretty hard to understand…
Not that Canadian Politics is any better…
They sort of make the everyday voter look pretty small… when all is said-and-done…
So, what’s your best bet as to who will be the next US Leader ?
Could it be another Republican ?
Bill…
No, from the visuals it really looks like you were trying to associate Hillary Clinton with the repubs, and setting Obama apart from them.

Mike,
I gotta agree with Tom there - I got that impression, too - right up to the end (the image of Obama in ceremonial African Dress.) At that point I became confused as to exactly what you were trying to say.
Downeast humour I guess!
I really thought the pic of Obama blowing his noise was a dead giveaway.
All I can say is that others got it, but it’s fine that everyone intreprets their own way.

I completely agree Tom. I was an Edwards supporter also because he seemed intent on clearing out the lobbyists. Take away the payola and Washington's elite might actually vote for those who put them in office.
I also have decided (grudgingly) that I am now for Obama. Mostly because I believe the Republican machine is so dead set against any Clinton being in office that if Hillary were to actually win the Republicans would spend endless energy and money to discredit her. I also believe that is Obama wins, the Republicans would have a harder time discrediting a black president for fear of being labeled bigots.
The upside to an Obama Presidency is that if Barack can actually garner the support of a moderate majority cross section of America, he may be able to push through some important positive legislation. I would love to see him announce that the US would be free of oil within ten years of him coming to office (much like Kennedy did when setting a time tame for a man on the moon). It can be done. It would just take a President with some balls and the funding to back up his plans.
We live in an interesting time.
Mike
Hey - the of us actually agree because I was an Edwards supporter too.
Maybe I should have written the song about him?!?!
Yes, Mr. Soul!
Dr G - the problem is, there really is no easy way to do it.
Biofuel won’t work, b/c even if we shifted a whole lotta farmland to produce it, we’d only get a small fraction of what we need.
Estimates are that a 70% conversion would get us about 10% of our needs.
Worse yet, that would take out of food production a whole lotta land, driving up food prices, and would hit the poorest folks really hard.
I mean starvation and famine hard.
The scenario is well understood among scientists who study this stuff.
Not so well known even among educated lay folks.
Worst of all, we’d still be loading the atmosphere with carbon, and you have seen the latest estimates on this - to avoid serious damage to global ecosystems and causing more famine and all that entails (wars,
children dead from preventable things like starvation…) we must STOP doing that. NOW.
Energy independence is the wrong goal, since to most Americans it means finding a way to keep living like we are now.
Global ecofriendly energy NOW is the correct goal.
Obama doesn’t have the guts to go for that, nor the inclination.
He’s a centrist, and humanity needs a radical.
Humanity is totally fried.
We really don’t have the time to jerk around with this stuff.
You guys know the Drake equation?
There’s a part of it which is an estimate of the length of time civilizations last that can send
signals out into space: L.
I deeply suspect L is very short, on the order of a couple of centuries at most.
Obama will be much, much better than any republican corporate tool, but he is no saviour.
He is part of the system too, and will do zippo to change things fundamentally - although the USA under him might join the rest of the developed world in providing universal health care and do something about the crappy educations our kids are getting.
That’s worth something.
I too have my doubts about Senator Clinton’s ability to get much done, not because she is not capable herself - she is totally capable, and an amazing person - but the repubs will get their second wish (their first is to win) and be able to continue the anti-Clinton narrative for at least another 4 years, and potentially more, if she wins and then her VP runs.
Edwards had/has a clue.
Educated people who were paying attention knew that.
You can draw the inference.
When I run it, I always get something like .5 at any given time. Am I a pessimist?
I got a .00033 - you’re highly optimistic

You see Tom, I do not believe that biofuel is the way to go. I seriously think that solar energy is the only answer to all the energy needs of the world even for vehicles. It would take a massive amount of investment to change over to a solar electric society; the 100s of billions of dollars wasted on Iraq would have gotten us much of the way there and certainly would have gone a long way to developing the answers. Photovoltaic paint has been around for many years and is becoming much more efficient; paint vehicles with it. Serious funded research could find the answers and power a clean future for the world. Biofuels are only a distraction and are not the answer. Coal is a distraction. Hydroelectric (including tidal electric) and wind have some merit. The sun is the best answer of all and needs to be used immediately.
Some scientists said an atomic bomb could not be built. Some scientists said we could not send a person to the moon and back safely. Some scientists say we cannot move to a solar electric society in less than 50 years. I like it when we prove scientists wrong. It needs to be done again.
Mike
DrGuitar for President!
I agree 100%
Speaking of solar energy, I’m waiting to get a quote for solar collectors for my domestic hot water. The Fed’s are still offering a $2,000 tax credit if you invest this year.
