What Ive been listening to lately
I was a big fan of “Grand Funk Railroad” ever since a High school friend bought the “Closer to Home” album in the 70’s.
I had until I sold my vinyl collection quite recently about 11 of their albums.
My record collection never got played once my turntable died years back and the sheer convenience of CD’s meant they were to all intents and purposes dead.
Anyway after stumbling across live clips from the 70’s on YOU Tube it wet my appetite again to what an awesome power trio they were in the early years with songs like “Im your Captain” and “We’re an American Band”. In fact Im your captain has been playing in my head for the last couple of weeks. I had never seen any live clips of the band until just recently and it brought back memories and emotions of my teenage years.
It kind of made me sad after watching a documentary to learn how they were ripped off by their first manager and left with nothing basically then came back strong with a number one hit until they disbanded and reformed in the 90’s? then split again.
For me the Grand Funk of today is nothing without guitarist /vocalist Mark Farner and I cant even bring myself to watch any clips of the current band performing.
I remember when ‘We’re an American Band’ came out. I bought the album on transparent yellow vinyl. Wish I knew where it was now
I have it, Bruffie.
Doncha know, all yellow vinyl copies of Grand Funk always return to Flint.
It’s some weird law of nature.
I’d be happy to send it to you, but it’ll just end up back here anyway, so I won’t bother.
ha!
