If you're talking songs.. Who in the Beetles did Hey Jude? In a couple hundred years from now, I wonder how the Beetles will be covered by the Historians?? There's no depth to that song.. in my opinion
It's hard to tell what historians will say about the Beatles in the future but I suspect that they'll always be in the music/pop history books because they were ground breakers.
Paul McCartney wrote & sung Hey Jude, and I respectively disagree with you. IMO - that's one of the best songs Paul ever wrote. The lyrics are simple but moving and tell a nice story, supposidley about John's son Julian (Hey Jules). I would claim that song has about as much depth as any good song, i.e., it's a cheer up song.
There's another story about that song:
Paul McCartney on his songwriting partnership with John Lennon in Observer Music Monthly October 2007: "I have fond flashbacks of John writing - he'd scribble it down real quick, desperate to get back to the guitar. But I knew at that moment that this was going to be a good collaboration. Like when I did 'Hey Jude.' I was going through it for him and Yoko when I was living in London. I had a music room at the top of the house and I was playing 'Hey Jude' when I got to the line 'The movement you need is on your shoulder' and I turned round to John and said: 'I'll fix that if you want.' And he said: 'You won't, you know, that's a great line, that's the best line in it.' Now that's the other side of a great collaborator - don't touch it, man, that's OK."
Hey Jude was the most successful Beatles single commercially. It sold 5 million copies and was #1 in at least 12 countries. There's got to be something good about it :-)
Hi Mr Soul:
When I read what I said when in your Quote, I find it’s hard to retract what I said… after it’s posted on the Internet… it’s too late…
Sorry, Maybe, what I should have said and meant to say is…
The melody line of the song is very basic and not complicated…
The vocal line carries the song…
The music doesn’t get in the way…
I think that’s better…
I think that more covers what I meant to say…
Let me expand on that idea…
Maybe, and it would be my response that it was Paul and John’s attempt to compare their collaboration with something that had been coming out of the Southern States for decades…
There’s some real Beetles Buffs around these parts… They’ve got all of the recorded music and anything ever written about the organization and how their product got to the paying public…
It could even be one of the biggest entertainment enterprises of our time…
What do you think?
Bill…
Bill - I agree that Hey Jude is a very simple song with a fairly strong melody line but that’s what makes it good. McCartney’s song is so good on it.
I’m not sure I follow what you are saying in the rest of your post?
There’s a guy in the neighbourhood over here that travels the world with his music and entertaining skills…
He has just come home from Liverpool where he does his show every year now sense 2000 or so… Here’s what happened to him and his performance this year…
I know you worked at staging a Neil Young Tribute out on the west coast…
He’s a popular entertainer up here in Canada…
I know there are many Elvis Tributes around the world…
It might be closer than you think…
A Neil Young Tribute could sell… very well…
I’m a real supporter of hard working people like this…
in the music business…

When he’s home and off the road I see him every morning at the coffee shop…
He’s on his way to Scranton PA. where another Beetles Tribute is Organized…
Doing it on the stage is about 10% of what is required to make a living…
Boy…
The energy that this guy has…
Bill…
Niel Young was (and is) a brilliant songsmith.
Classic rock and cerebral lyrics.
‘Cinnnamon Girl’, ‘After the Gold Rush’ + a hundred others.
I’d sell my left little toe to the devil (it’s all I can spare)
to play and write like that.
November… during week three…
Tell Me Why
Selling tickets
to broke old crack whores
out on the street in the night
Still the scalper
must con his neighbors
casing the crowd for a bite
Tell me why, Tell me why
Is it hard to pay
200 for yourself
When you know that it’s
way too much
but not enough for Neil
Pay me now not later
come and see me
up on the stage for a while
Got your money it sure was easy
Now I’ll go home with a smile
Tell me why, Tell me why
Tell me why, Tell me why
I saw Neil Young in 1979 during the “Rust Never Sleeps” tour and he burned the house down! T’was awesome!
