CPU Usage in V 5

Better than V 4?

Quote:

I just finished a recording session with a group that I have been recording for the past 2 years. This is the first session since last May, due to a very busy summer of live gigs, etc. Also this summer, I upgraded from 4.x to 5.1. I can categorily say the difference is - UNBELIEVABLE!!

The first thing I noticed was the CPU load. After laying down about 16 tracks (no fx, etc) the CPU load was only about 2.3%, whereas with 4.x, it would have been around 10-15% (same machine, same everything).

I have found the opposite to be the case. When I use Version 5 Build 2305 the CPU usage is quite a bit higher than V 4, especially during recording. I can't record as many tracks now without experiencing a delay. When I record 8 tracks simultaneously the CPU load on V 4 is less than 1%. In V 5 it is about 4%. If I have over about 30 tracks on V 5 then I get a delay on recording new tracks whereas in V 4 this doesn't happen. [I can get a buttload of tracks trying to get a difficult drum take because I use about 8 tracks for drums.]

I've turned off the feature that draws the waveform during recording but are there other things I should do to reduce the CPU load in V 5? I'm wondering if there are some features that I haven't disabled to reduce the CPU load.

HERES A FEW TO BE GOING ON WITH!! -

AT YOUR OPWN RISK, SO TAKE CARE WITH THE FIRST SCREENSHOT - ON MY PC ITS OK TO RUN N AT ‘HIGHEST’ THIS PUTS NTRACK INTO REALTIME MODE - this pushes all other running appa (including WINDOWS) down a level or two - other apps will get their proper share of CPU time and Windows will still BUTT IN but it lessens the chances of interuptions whilst recording - all other changes are OK on my PC and i have heard of no complaints from others re settings -

NO SCREENSHOT FOR THIS AS IT CHANGES FOR EVERY OS

open CONTROL PANEL then SYSTEM - when panel opens select ADVANGED then PERFORMANCE OPTIONS - set to BACKGROUND - close -

this sets applications up for LONG TERM use rather than foreground use which is the setup used short term apps like word processing etc -

Dr J

Sorry to hear you are getting the opposite results for ver 5. Hope Dr J’s recommendations helps.
