Crappy Radio Compression

Just had some great luck again…and just had 2 full recorded songs played on Rother FM radio station. (I’ll put up the podcast tomorrow if anyone wants a listen).

However…

The compression was WWAAAYYYY too much on my speakers and it sounded weird rather than good. All the other radio stuff sounded great.

How come?
Does it mean my stuff is already over compressed?

Craig

Perhaps… post something for us to listen to.

Hi Gents:

I came across this site/page that discussed this very issue…
It was posted somewhere in the UK.
So, this Group designed a utility/application to pre-prepare music files so they could be properly prepared for FM broadcast on European FM Radio…
I got the link to the page from Mr.Rabbit…
I got selected to become a Beta Tester …
I contributed in the very early design of this Application…
and then I dropped from the Radar Screen…
However, this Application is used by most of the recording studios on the continent so their Product can be properly AIR’d on FM Radio…
In a Nutshell this application touches on Limiting,Compression, and Levels-and-EQ…
all in the same application… ( It will process single-and/or-bulk Wav. Files )…

As I see this Application, it is designed by the Radio Big-Wiggs of the European Radio Broadcast Community…
If you are a Studio Engineer you can be sure that when your product gets processed by this application before it gets AIR’d
It’s gonna sound like your songs does in the studio monitors…
Well,
within limits…
BUT…
You know… I think I still have this application on a Hard Drive here somewhere…
I think I have one of the latest beta versions…

Bill…

Actually listening on headphones it sounds fine…
It sounded garbage when it aired over my speakers.

Just got it here…it’s the bottom podcast. Older songs of mine, Who I Am and Chalk and Cheese…just demos.

Hi Gents:

Back Again…

I got busy and i have posted a printscreen of the application that the Broadcast Boys use for processinbg .wav files before taking them to AIR…

I installed the application and the version is 1.4.0 build xxxxx…
Anyway you just drag the file to the Pop-Screen and it automatically does it’s ThInG. to the file…
It then leaves the original file and adds .output to the .wav file in the folder the file is in…
on the drive it’s in and vOiLa…
All Done…

Now this process is very subtal??
and then you’ll have your song sound just like it’s in the studio when it gets broadxast on the AIR…
This thing is Just Great…
AND…
The signal chain at Radio Stations can be very bruital on your Music…
if they don’t have the correct processing filters done to them…

Bill…

p.s.
By-the-Way…
I processed HomeForARest with this thing…
I’m still playing with this track on my n-Track Desk…

Err, post one that is not through the compression of the podcast/iRadio.

First impression here Craig is the width of your tracks - the jolt from mono dj voice to your mix is a bit overwhelming. Once the old bean settles into listen mode it sounds good.
I have not listened to “Chucky Cheese” since I sent the guitars to you - man that’s schweet!

:agree: :agree:

Good work there Poppa :agree:

Bubba heres a link to the who I am demo before the radio:

It doesn’t sound half as bad on the podcast as it did ‘live’ though.
