I just recorded an acoustic track and about 1/4 way through, out of nowhere, it’s all bangy, metallic distortion.

what’s the deal? how to avoid?

Acoustic what? Guitar? How did you record it? Mic it up? Direct?

Acoustic guitar, but it just happened again with me recording my singing. I am using the samsontech USB C01U for both. When I use the mic with soundrecorder, the problem does not seem to happen?

'Fraid I can’t help you. I didn’t even know such a thing as a direct-to-USB mic existed. Hopefully someone else will chime in. Is soundrecorder something that came with the mic or are you talking about the built-in Windows app?

Things to consider (just off the cuff - no guru insights, just common sense)

Have you been able to reproduce the problem?

Does it happen in n-Track every time and after a specific recording duration?

Have you tried other applications, such as Audacity, and does it happen there?

Have you got the latest drivers for the Samsontech mic?

Are you running other things via USB, or are you using a hub?

Do you run USB 2.0? (i.e. is it enabled in BIOS?)

My ultimate guess would be some fault in the mic hardware, like dodgy soldering or the intermittent fault of some component, but it might as well be some (yet not understood) streaming issue.

regards, Nils

What format are you recording to?

Just wondering…do you have the updated drivers and all that?

This all seems to have been due to using the samson driver/application for the mic. Once I uninstalled that, everything’s been fine.
