Does n-track need NET?

:D Maybe they should have named the script; "www." instead of ".NET" to avoid all the confusion :D

microsofts deal with Sun Systems to supply their Java console expired some time ago, Java has been removed from m’softs website, you have to get it from Sun Systems - .net is m’softs replacement for Java and this time is totally under m’soft control - (not always a good idea this) but so far they seem to be on a winner. and as said .net will be part of the next OS (or even an XP update), so like it or not its going to go on your PC and you will have no say abouit it, other than not upgrade -

like Java, .net is a cross platform code convertor. now think on, if Flavio is going ‘MAC’, then with .net, one program will run on both platforms - as long as there is a MAC version of .net that is - microsoft do a lot of MAC programs as well as PC so they must already have this base covered -

:D Funny Marcy!
Thanks DrJ

I’m glad Flavio has chosen .NET, the managed framework will help him develop N more quickly because it reduces the time chasing bugs and leaves more time for actual design and creative work. So I guess we’ll be seeing better updates. If somebody is really interested in hearing more (warning: for nerds only! :)): video about .NET

OK. The problem here is that the poll at the top of this thread has completely and utterly missed the point, and Scythe just about has it covered. Forget issues about the internet and collaboration - totally irrelevant.

Poll question: Does n-Track need .NET?

Answer: If the framework assists him developing the software in a more efficient and effective manner, then yes.

:)

If it doesn’t run with out .NET installed, then I would say it sure does need it. This is a total situation of folks knowing a little and crying the sky is falling. Install it already and get it over with.

Yeah!!!

The .NET Framework 1.1 has been pre-installed on new computers by OEM’s (PC builders) for over a year now. It is also included in XPSP2, and Windows Server 2003. It is also included as part of Longhorn (the next version of Windows).

It is important to note that if you are going to pre-install it yourself, and your studio machine also connects to the network, you should go ahead and install the .NET Framework 1.1 SP1. (If you have automatic updates configured, you will be notified that this is a critical update).

The question “Should n-track require the .NET Framework?” seems like an absurd question.

What do you expect the result to be, for him to remove it?

This is a desicion that was made by the developer based on a technical development reason. I seriously doubt he made the call to take a dependancy on the .NET Framework just to annoy his customers.

P.S. If you have purchased an HP printer in the last 2 years and installed thier included software, you already have the .NET Framework.
