Forum registration

Any chance you could enable it so that only registered users can post in this forum. The spammers are killing this part of the forum.

I must admit I am frequenting the forum less since the spammers started work.

It is very irritating.
The only thing that will work is to change the link to the forum regularly and have the link hidden in such a way that it can’t be easily discovered by spiders. They can even automate registration so even that’s not going to prevent some spammers, and automated posts.
A human must find the link, or re-find it if it’s changed regularly, if it’s well hidden enough then an automation script can be created based on the keystrokes used to get there and do that, including registering and posting. After that the keystrokes are simply replayed.
I regularly change the link to the phootoons messageboards by using some random letters as the directory the board is in, and the link (in some cases) is hidden in some jscript. Doing this seems to last about a month before a board is rediscovered.
The fact that they spam the phootoons boards is proof they don’t care where they post. Phootoons (including thefartones site) get virtually no traffic except a few friends and spammers.

you are correct Phoo but it seems that the majority of spam here is from unregistered users.... and there is none in the main forum, so as a start enabling this forum to require login to post will help.
I've had some luck defending against spam registrations on other forums I run by modding the pages to ask additional questions on registration. That seems to work for a while.
A whiles back Flavio said he was going to do something about all the spam on here, and I’m sure he’s working on it. But I’m also sure he’s got more important things to do than making it a priority. He probably reckons that the Anything Else part is not the important part of the forum, and he’s probably right.
But seems to me that a lot of people who used to hang around in here have been driven away by all this spam. And it also seems to me that those people contributed to the main forum too, answering questions from newbs and suchlike.
So I reckon all the spam on Anything Else is badly affecting the service that Flavio’s customers and potential customers are receiving. And that might make those potential cutomers look somewhere else.
So if you’re reading this Flavio, then that’s just something I’m thinking.

Another part to this is… Some 30 -50% of the regular posters are unable to log on to the re-built Board and have to sign on as Guests… I see that as a shame… as the majority of those guys that are not able to log on are good contributors to the Board in all three departments of topics…
I browse the board as a Guest… It just takes me longer to browse the topics… I log on to write-or-reply… You ain’t gonna get rid of me that easy… I still have much to learn from visiting this Board…

Half the time I cannot get logged in when I come to the forum. I put in my ID and password, and the forum says I’ve logged in, but when the screen refreshes I’m still shown as “guest.” This has kept me from posting quite often.

As you can see from the above, I am shown as “unregistered.” and the “welcome” line still thinks I’m a “guest”. Most annoying!
