Generate peak files

while recording

From previous posts - one is to assume that unchecking
this option means that no peak files are generated.
But I think this means what it says ‘while recording’.
Peak files are still going to be generated.
Is this correct?

Yep…“while recording” Don’t need to create them on the fly DURING the record process. That may be buggy. Someone reported that they were still being created, but maybe that’s what you are referencing. (I haven’t looked into that this one – still too busy at the real day job to get back)

Peak files are necessary to display the wave in the timeline. They get rebuilt any time they are missing.

When recording is stopped they will be generated if they aren’t there…just not on the fly when it’s disabled. That will add a perf hit at recording stop.

Especailly if you were recording 8 or more tracks at a time.
Could create substantial overhead.

You turn them off to record, but they are on when you bring them up to mix.

i always use N with peak files drawing ON while recording - have not had a problem yet -

BUT confusion may rule as there are TWO places where youi can switch this feature on/off and both are independant from each other (NOT LINKED) one is in the OPTIONS page of PREFS and the other is in SETTINGS - Waveform display - to stop waveforms being drawn you have to make sure both are on-selected -

ah clarity.
