EV MS802
(I had to look and they look good)
I have a pair of Sennheiser headphones I use to check the low end more than anything, or to listen for problems I might not have noticed on the monitors. But even then, I go back to the monitors to make any adjustments. Something else I think I picked up on this forum is to turn the speakers down to barely audible to check that nothing is louder than it should be in the mix. I’ve done that a lot lately.
Oh yeah… turning up your monitors enough you can listen in another room is helpful too.
What I do is wash the dishes. Best mixing aid I have, and believe anyone can have, is to become an audience instead of a player/performer/writer/engineer. Just listen while you’re doing something else. Seriously - try it. Plus your wife will think you’re actually helping around the house instead of staying in your music room having raw hamburger shoved under the door every 6 hours.
Well i guess there are a million ways to look at the eqing subject. Most important, experiment with it and have fun.
Ifn you ain’t having fun, what’s the point!
Wow Poppa gets raw burger, all I get is raw chicken livers, YUMMY!

Seeing as I have a kitchen full of dirty dishes this morning, this is timely advice.
Well Kev, I tried it just now, washing dishes and listening to mixes, gave me great ideas on adding some guitar parts, But now I have dish pan hands and can’t play me geetar!
Oh well, couldn’t play it before I did the dishes anyways, LOL
Yaz (not gonna soak in Palmolive Dish washing Liquid anymore)
Thanks Paul, it’s nice to be back.
Yeah Phoo, I got those EVs in trade from a guy who owed me a piece of change- just lucky. He knows sound though. They’re pretty knocked around- the tweeter surrounds are decayed a bit, and one of the tweeter cones is pushed in- but they still seem to work fine. And they give up a little more bass than my old Fostex active PM 0.5s. They carry a lot of detail, and they’re pleasant to listen to.
Hey Yaz, judging by the covers you and your daughter entered in the contest, you could come do my dishes and still play just fine.

You are too kind sir, thanks, uhhh, does the dishes pay any money?
If so I'm on the way LOL.
To quote a movie line (can ya guess it)
"I'm so broke if it cost a quarter to go around the world, I couldn't get out of town"

Yaz, if I could actually afford to hire a dishwasher, I wouldn’t have been doing them to begin with…lol. It was in an odd way fun though, to wash dishes and remaster an old 4 track cassette recording at the same time.
The movie quote sounds familiar, but I can’t place it. One of my all time favorites is from a movie called “Falling Down”, where the Michael Douglas character says “I’m the bad guy?” I don’t know what that’s got to do with the price of beans in China, but I was considering it for my Forum signature.
LOL Kev, Falling Down was a great flick!
The quote I put up is Clint Eastwood, "Heartbreak Ridge"
