I know some of you guys are historians of a sort. Wazzup? Whats the skinny on this? True or False?

True, very true.........SAD, but true.......

If they were honest, moral, upstanding people, they'd never be able to get elected! We have a very screwed up system IMO.

I don’t know about the Roosevelt “facts” but I do know that the final program was not exactly what he acted for.

As far as the allowing the Trust Fund into the General Fund, yes it doesn’t surprise me that Johnson & the Democrat’s did that. Remember Johnson was fighting the Vietname & trying to create the Great Society at the same time - an impossible task, both fiscally & logistically. There’s nothing necessarily wrong with what he did because there are IOU’s created; however what was wrong is creating a deficit.

I think we should keep the money back into the SS Trust Fund & invest it, instead of creating personal accounts, which I don’t think will work unless the entire system is overhauled.

Yeah, I have friends who are dyed in the wool Repubs AND some who are stone-cold Dems all the way. Thats why I asked the question here. Some other bud is liable to send me one that replaces “Democrats” with “Republicans” in the same text. I think you guys have figured out I’m not a dyed in the wool anything. As a matter of fact about the only thing I could be considered “fanatical” about would be MUSIC!

TG

Keep in mind, the repubs and dems of today hardly resemble those of the past. Both parties have changed so much in the past 10 years, blaming or praising one or the other for past actions doesn’t relate at all to the modern parties.

As for true or false, well, from I can tell, mostly false. Check out Snopes. It is a sight devoted to debunking these chain e-mails and urban legends that go around. Also, Truth or Fiction. My grandparents send me junk like this all the time about how Starbuck’s hates our troops, Gerber is giving away a zillion dollars to anyone born between 1972 and 1993, Microsoft wil pay a dime for ever person you send this e-mail to to some kid with cancer, and all those other junk e-mails and I am always happy to send them to a debunking site. This stuff is generally rubbish, but I do admire the guys who write them. How they come up with some of the stuff and it gets all over the place is amazing to me.

Politics is supposed to be the second oldest profession. I have come
> to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first!

Nah, spying is the 2nd oldest profession.

So if it’s false, which I also could believe, what right-wing organization sent you the misinformation?

Oh I don’t have a clue where it originated. One of my buds forwarded it to me. It’s just another example of politicos playing the blame game. WHATEVER it takes to get elected… Screw what is REALLY right…
