TO N SO FAR -
v6 has taken N to a new level - many little things like, cut track under timeline, drag repeat of clips, mute and re-colour of individual parts, are slowly but surely making N a PRODUCERS DELIGHT - LOOPING and making new samples from old is just SOOOOOOO FAAAASSSTTT -
LANES will be a BOON to ALL - BUT Flavio has made one change to Ns engine that may not be noticed by many, this is the change he made to the speed that N refreshes the GUI of VST and VSTi plugins and the ability to alter the refresh rate in prefs -
this single change has at least DOUBLED the amount of VSTi instruments i can run and TRIPLES the amount of VST effects i can run -
if you have opened a VSTi instrument and watched N fall over in V5 try it in V6 - definately a five star mod -

Hi Magic Rabbit:
I’m not sure if I recognize the term LANES…
I haven’t gone looking for that feature yet…
I Layman Terms…
Give a description of what LANES produces when using LANES…
With your setup…
how are you gonna use that feature ?
Bill…
Good post Majic! V6 is awsome.

LANES - OK here goes -
you record a track, on playback you find that something is not right - OK now you have three options -
1…use punchin/out to re-record the section
2…record a new track
3…use the LANE -
when using punch in /out you have to spend an age setting up the in/out points - when N enters record at the punch in point it erases (overwrites the original track) -
recording a new track is easiest, so many say - and this is OK in the early part of a recording session -
NOW lets look at this from a STUDIO point of view where TIME IS MONEY -
you have 50 tracks all set out in a song ready for final mixdown, then one of the artists comes along and says they have a few ideas about their part in the song - NOW IT GETS MESSY -
if their track is the bass guitar and thats track 4 - recording a new track will make ithe variation track 51 - punch in/out will destroy the original (these are idesa not re-takes - do you know how long it takes to shift a track up from 51 to track 5 so that the bass tracks are togethe ? -
so you arm track 4 and set the timeline to the position you want to record again - hit the record button and n will record a TOTALLY INDEPENDANT new section on top of the original track - a LANE is a track on top of a track - but you can record on top of that if you want to - and again and again - each time a new take is recorded it is a track in its own right but sits on top of the ones below it - when two tracks sit on top of each other - N add two options to the right click menu - SEND TO BACK and BRING TO FRONT - if you stick to 1 lane at a time then switching between the original and the overlay is easy - gets complicated when you have three or more takes - using these options if the lane is behind it does not play - if it is in front it plays and the back track does not - lanes can be dragged anywhere along the track or to n new track should that be nessacery - each lane has its own properties box as well -
hope thats make it clear(er)

Hi Magic Rabbit:
Thanks for the great reply…
I think I understand the LANES Feature now…
Could I describe it by saying that the LANES is a 3-D Tracking Tool?
If there’s a track you want to save or combine …
you then have a choice to display the TAKES and Mix-and-Match Cut-and-Edit till you end up with an acceptible track to add to the timeline…
and…
the rest of the mix…?
Bill…
thats about right Bill, but LANES are work in progress so look out for more improvments -
M.R.
It would be nice to actually see each lane in each track as a ‘lane’ Instead of having them on top of each other.
when you have finished the take - double click in it and change its colour in its properties box - makes it easier to recognise it from all the other takes -
you can rename the take there as well - and dont forget that to make it easier to read you can increase the size of the track name font in prefs -

Double post…
Sorry
Gents
OR … One Big Stutter
Hi Gents:
I think I could envision a Track with LANES this way…
The track-in-question could have all the LANE(S) displayed as say…
A Hand-of-Cards
that are “Fanned”…
Clicking on one of the LANE’D Tracks would “Solo” that LANE and Hi-Lite that track on the timeline…
with a Hi-Lite’d Color./. ?
Well…
I’m attempting to get creative…
in my idea/suggestion… AND/OR a combination of your idea Magic Rabbit-and-Poppa Willis…
