I had an old Martin all mahogony 00-15 for a long time. Had to sell it 'cause my wife wanted to have electricity for another month.
Martin 00-15
Women… sheesh! Where were her priorities???
D
Ouch, haven’t ya ever heard of candles and wood cookstove?
I would be sick selling that Martin!
Sorry to say but, been there done that too, just because the wife wanted food, jeezzzz.
Well, there’s that Ibanez Lawsuit Les Paul I mentioned in the other thread… There was a fire engine red Gibson Explorer that was kinda cool with a Kahler locking trem (BAAWOooo-Oooo-Oooo gronk!). A really sweet (cheap though) Dean Archtop electric I traded. That thing was great for “in-betweeney” type tones on either or both pickups. An old beater Fender acoustic my dad gave me… I passed that one down to a nephew interested in guitar. It’s probably been used for kindling by now…
Many, many other SUPREMO EL’ CHEAPO instruments to numerous to mention. The above were just stand outs I wish I had back.
D
PS Do the guitars I gave my son count? Heh. An Epiphone LP Flame top Custom that is almost as sweet as a real Gibby. Then there’s the Ibanez S series guitar I gave him a few months back. He plays in like “Drop Bb” or summat… uses barb-wire for strings. Honestly, I don’t how he plays the fool things setup that way… them puppies are HUGE!
Sorry D, guitars passed down to kids don’t count.
Barb wire eh! Stevie Ray used heavy gauge strings, piano wire, cut his fingers all to crap, super glued 'em and did another set! Go figure.
Epi LP’s are pretty sweet guitars!
Guess my worst 2 were a Les Paul Deluxe w/mini humbuckers, and a '72 Rock Jet.
Maybe I shoulda traded the wifey instead.
I had an Epi given to me by my songwriting partner (Wayne) when he switched to a Taylor that I thought was w-a-y better than the Taylor he replaced it with. (And I even told him so). Someone walked off with it at a party; I was crest-fallen.
I don’t know how much I’d give to have that Epi back but I DO know what I’d do to the S-O-B who stole it if I ever found out who he was.
lol - Don’t get me started on guitars & kids.
Another guitar I actually still have is a red gretsch solid body single pick-up I think it was called a StingRay but I’m not sure. My dad gave it to me after he took a hacksaw to the bridge and ruined it - still in storage though - maybe I’ll dig it out and see what it’s got - learned I wanna hold you hand on it and Wildwood Flower. He bought it new in '62 I think it was.
There was a Guild X-350 that I really loved, but needed more work than I could afford or do at the time…
Then there was a Fender Montego II that I played regularly for over 20 years and finally wasn’t using it much so I sold it… it is the middle one…
I also loved the old Ibanez Custom Agent I owned during my late high schoo/early college years…
Fortunately, most of the nicest guitars I have ever owned, I still own.
Mike
I want my old Orange Vistalite Ludwigs back. There were two complete sets put together for a single double-bass set. I gave them away when I moved because they weren’t worth much at the time. Someone said at the time “you can’t give those things away anymore.” I proved them wrong.
Then a few years later they became the “new vintage thing every one wanted” because John Bonham used them, and the asking price skyrocketed. I probably could have sold each set for a few thousand at that time.
Asking price has come down a bit since, but they would still be nice to have back.
Hey, Elderly Instruments is just down the road a piece from here! (well, an hour or so…)
Gibson GA-5T - loaned it to a singer who took it to Boston and was never heard from again…
Vox AC 50 head. Had to pay the rent.
i wish i had my old cheap washburn 12-string back these days…sigh…
I had a '76 Rickie 4001 bass I sold 'cause I was having wrist problems. The thing admittedly was a coffee-table, but went to tape sweeeeet through the SVTs direct-out…
I’ve sold an old SVT head (note above)… a Gibson EB-0 my dad and I refinished (yeeeeears ago, to buy my unappreciative girlfriend a present)… a Peavey T-40… a Fender Jazz Bass (80’s)… an Acoustic 370 head…
And I had a Rickie Blackstar 4001 bass I sold- #199 of the 200 produced- because I was having instrument appreciation problems. That one still hurts!
I wish I still had all these.
That old heart of mine is laying around on a floor somewhere- that was from when the Blackstar went, about 6 years ago. Gawd, the lessons I’ve had to learn so many times over! But I’m getting better, and hanging onto my Peavey Dyna-Bass Unity ('89, and the sweetest player ever) and 32"-scale (Korean) Burns Marquee. I might be hanging onto the Sunn 300T head, if I can afford to. Not an SVT, but you have to take second-best once in a while when you screw up! Though the 300T has more clean power available than the SVT- such is consolation.
The new heart is coming along… still on the small side, but growing I think.
Ahh man - you made me remember my old Tele Bass…
I bought red telecaster in '64 for $95. sanded it all down to the wood, restained it and put a black pick guard on it. when i got home from the service i had too many distractions to play much guitar, so i sold it to a friend of my moms for $65 - which was gone in a week.
my friend bought his robin egg blue mustang at the same time…he still has it. i told him to never let it go…
cliff
p.s. funny…
i still have the accoustic guitar i bought my son about 20 yrs ago. paid about 25 for it. its really small - made for a seven year old. but, i can still take it off the wall and play it…holds its tune right up the neck.
ahh, the rickys. love 'em. as someone who grew up on Permanent Waves, Hemispheres, et al, I always wanted one like Geddy. My dad has one that he always said he’d pass it down. still waiting. he hasn’t used it in at least 20 years. sigh…
My first real electric 6 string was a blue ric 340 from the late 60s. Got destroyed in a fire. Bummer.
So I bought myself a new one two years ago. Exact same guitar.
Now I want my Gibson GA-5T back!
I almost forgot about the old Gibson GA-8T I used to play with a big band back in the late 1970s. I wish I still had that one also.
Mike

Permanent Waves... Hemispheres... NOW you're talking JDET!!
La Villa Strangiato anyone?

D
yeah, i fell in love with Hemispheres from the first chord, a chord which I stole and use all the time now. It figures prominently in my first song for the contest, which will be submitted as soon as I’m done mixing (it’s an 8 1/2 minute beast!).
