Here's what I did today

I recorded this today for one of the teachers in the guitar studio.

He did all the guitars and bass. I programmed the drums (EZDrummer) under instruction.

Totally out of my comfort zone. I really don’t understand this genre.

Anyway, he seems quite pleased. Apparently there are some more guitar parts to add.

First mix:

Man I hadn’t noticed how annoyingly loud some of those crash hits are.

Hi MarkA:

Those drum tracks are great sounding along with those guitar tracks..
However, tell him I don't know how a twin fiddle and steel guitar tracks can be fitted into those lines..
???
hehe..
Just kidding, of course.. :)

That EZ Drummer application is great..

bright lights tonight...

I listened real hard..
I don't hear any "String Noise" of any kind on those guitar tracks..
Do you spose he used "Cheese Ease"
????
on those strings..

CareFul, with that avatar..
That is the North-and-South Islands of NZ..
I-know-you-know..
hehe
Just checkin..

Bill..

oh the bacon islands! i thouht they were danish

sorry mark i never said what i thouht of the song too busy being silly
from what ive heard of this music its quite extereme & nothing about that sounded extreme it sounded good but thats not extreme is it the guitars need to sound like scyths the drums like hammers of the gods & the vocals like my dad after i broke his car window with a yoyo but theres no vocal so ignore that bit
how do you spell scyths?

Tina’s right about the extreme thing, but this sounds very good. Maybe the drums need to sound bigger?

Yea good playing for that genre - I guess - I dunno either. Did you use a metal EZD kit? - I have slate’s metal kit and it is way punchier.

Thanks for the comments folks. Ype. Bigger drums, more extreme, scythes, jangly guitar… whoops wrong thread.

I really don’t know what I’m doing here. This is just the EZ drummer standard kit (it’s the only one I have) with the room mics turned off. We grabbed some standard patterns and then he told me to add the extra kicks etc. Apart from a tiny bit of 'verb there’s not other processing.

I miced his guitar amp with a '57 close up and an LDC about 5 ft away. Both tracks are mics are mixed in.

I need to have a listen again with fresh ears. Maybe I can find a metal kick and do some replacement.

Mmmmm bacon. :D

Here’s the text book model and arguably the top band of the genre.

OK, that just made me fall offa my bar stool. :agree: :agree: :agree: :agree: :agree:

Yet you dislike reggae? Daggone happiest music there is (excepting for polka). Makes me want to sit on the beach drinking beer and eating animal crackers.

the trouble with reggae is it all seems on the wrong beat & i cant understand the words which is realy important to me… its almost like it was designed to keep me out
