Hey woxnerw

There is an auction here on Sunday of old radio, boxes of tubes, and such. I was looking through what is listed to see if they have a tube tester, which they do, but I also found this:

Know anything about that mic?

Duff

Hi, Duff. Sorry - no info from me, but I wish I could come along. I collect radios and lot #779 looks beautifull.

carbon mic, right?
Do you know the manufacturer?
Does not look like Shure, at least the one I know, the 33n.
Stand looks sort of like an American?

Edit:
no, the mount is a Universal, the auction catalog lists it as
Universal Mod X - dunno what that is.
Model BB?

Item 696 in the catalog.
I think.

Look here:

That is one heck of a collection they are auctioning. Wow.

The wife and I are going. I will be bidding on a tube tester, that mic, and a box or 2 of tubes.

This place is about 15 miles from my house. Has auctions almost every Sat/Sunday. It where I picked up my 12 string acoustic/electric with hard case for $90. Got a real ebony and silver clarinet for $30.

Bet that mic dont go for what it is listed at on that link!! Bet I get it for less than $50!!

Duff

Hi duffman and All:

If that mic could only talk…
The stories it could tell…
You’re quite right…
I believe those mics had Carbon Granules that needed a “C” Supply voltage to energize the carbon…
Something like a Phantom Supply on present day mics…
The smaller the granular size ( of carbon ) the better resolution the mic had…

Anyway, to get “That Sound”

you don’t need any plug ins to give IT to you…
Well…
What a way to go…
:)
:p

Today we, Bob and I, began the work on that Ampeg B15N Bass Amp…
I have a series of photos that I took today to update the Photo Blog…
I have them up there for anyone to have a peek at what the Amps looks like as we tore it apart and all…
I’ll update the n-Track blog to bring it up to current…
Later…
We are about to put a Parts list together, maybe tomorrow…
We’ll see…

AND, we have an Ampeg Baby Bass, we are gonna see if we can negotiate a deal on…
to complete the the Bass and Amp Set…
We’ll see in the next few weeks if it can be had…
I am not sure on the history of the Bass…
However, I believe that Ampeg bought the Patient from the designer and sold the Bass as the Ampeg Baby Bass…
It happened in-and-around 1960…
????

Bill…

I’d sure like to be close enough to attend those Auctions… :agree:

The Tube Tester…

For what it’s worth…
Check to see if there is a 9-Pin tube socket on it… That would mean you will be able to test 12AX7 Dual Triode types of tubes…
AND
8-Pin octal sockets
to test 6V6 and 6L6
and 6550 types of tubes…
I have a couple of tube testers on my bench… However, that don’t see much action anymore…
Tube testers are good for TV Tubes and all
BUT
in the audio business tubes tell their own stories…
and you are able to hear if an audio application tube works or it don’t…
It doesn’t mean to say that tube testers don’t apply to audio tubes…
BUT…
You Know…

Good luck, Duffman!

Let us know what you grab.

I’ll let you know how this deal goes…
I’d sure like to acquire the BabyBass to complement the ProtaFlex Amp…

What appears to be holding us up is the delivery of parts we have on order, for these amps we are working on…
sigh…

Bill… …

I ran across a box of old tube socks this week. Any use for those?

Hi phoo:

Thanks for the heads up on this..
If you're in the repair-or-building of tube amps, sockets are a must..
Octal (8-pin) sockets for 6L6 and 6V6 and 6550 tubes and 9_pin sockets for 12AX7 type tubes are a must..
If ya don't have em there is no other way to mount tubes on a chassis..

If there's any way to grab a photo of them or a photo/display of what's in the box, can you grab it and post them up here??

Bill..

I just don’t want to hear the story of where those tube socks have been, phoo.

  :p ???
Feet.....Way too large for anything else.

Man…
We got a dusting of snow, over night…
:)
:disagree:
The temperature went down to minus 7c, and my furnace is cycling…
All you guys to the west of here…
Keep your weather to yourselves… :)
:p

Bill…

We were at -14 C yesterday.
:)

If we’d had phoo’s socks we could have burned them for warmth.
