Hello to all,
I have been using n-track for more than 2 years now and I am quite happy with it. The interface is very straight forward and it is easy to use. I worked before with cubase but it was too complicated for my elementary skills.
But since the very beggining I had too frecuent hang ups and freezings using n-track. I do not work with more than 10 tracks a time and It is the only thing I have installed on the computer. Should run without problems but there is no session that goes without 3-4 restarts. I try to drag a part, select a channel, or any stupid things and plop, there it goes again to my dismay, the screen freezes and I get the f@x!ing message “the programm is not responding”.
Would it be something to do with the buffering? I haver tried to change it but in ASIO mode, it is not controlled by the programm and it iseems I can not do it from the sound card.
Or a conflict with IRQ??..
Anyway, my hardware is:
Intel 4 2.8 Ghz
1 GB RAM total physical memory
454 Mb available physical memory
2GB virtual memory
1.96 GB available virtual memory
pagefile.sys space 2.4 GB
Souncard: Terratec phase 26 USB
Video card Gforce FX6200
Running on windows XP professional 5.1.2600
servicepack 2 compilation 2.600
Thanks a lot for your help, I am about to quit n-track!
Javier
Well two things come to mind. You should have at least 2 gig of ram running XP, that just my opinion. Second your USB sound card, is it sharing with another USB port? USB come in pairs and if its sharing a port using USB 1.1 device it will down grade to USB 1.1
Notice you have only 450+ meg of ram free, that is not enough if your running 10 tracks.

Those hang-ups, pops, glitches and freezes are features designed to keep it all real…just like in a 50’s era recording studio.
Embrace them!
Don’t listen to Hugh Ass, he’s the local moron/fartbag/spammer/low life/weirdo/can’t get a life/3dr year medical student with a severe drinking problem/manic depressive/psychopathic narcissistic drug addict, who has nothing better to do, than spam this forum with LOW CLASS endless dribble. And yes he’s the one on TOP!!!

Dunno about that Paco. I routinely run 20+ tracks with FX on Win XP SP3, only a GB of RAM... (Not with n of course...) I suspect jatego's problems lie elsewhere.
jatego,
Check your driver and firmware versions for the Terratec? Have a look here...

You should be able to do better than 10 tracks. Even with n...
Are these all audio tracks? Any heavy virtual instruments involved? Large, streaming samples etc...?

Well it's been my experience that 1 gig over 2 gig always was better in XP. 500 gig free on the CPU he has I don't know dude, doesn't sound like enough to me. 1 gig was ok for Win98. It's hard to say he's got issues elsewhere when your not running N but your take on it will hopefully will him out.

I do all my mixes on my laptop with one gig and have no problem handling 20 plus tracks with full FX. With Vista Home Premium.
It does sound like a driver issue.

Well I'm gamer too. The more the merrier, but surprised and glad N works this well with little ram. Glad to hear it. I hope it's a driver issue, cost less.

Yeah... more RAM on XP (32 bit) usually always equals better performance. But only up to 2.5 or 3 GB. Anything over that is just a waste of cash. You have to jump to a 64 bit OS to take advantage of 4+ gigs of RAM... then MOST of your plugins won't work! ARRRRGGHHHH!!!

Paca572, please get a new photo. That one just does not look like you! (and it makes difficult to concentrate on what you are saying)
Old Compaq Evo. XPpro,SP3,512RAM,Graph’s down to 16 - it wouldn’t run n-T. Up-ed it to a GIG and it runs but scratchy.

The one riding you fool in my Avatar. Your more stupid than I could've possibly ever imagined, you walked right into that one.
As far as your "Legacy" is concern here, lets touch on that for a minute. Your legacy is, your sociologically dysfunctional and to be more specific, the failure to show the characteristics or fulfill the purposes accepted as normal or beneficial behavior. Sound about right.
As far being a "Legend", your a legend of absolutely nothing. Moreover, you consistently prove that here over and over again.
I may have said things in the past or even in this thread calling you whatever, but not once did I ever make a racial slur at you. But in an act of your own social dysfunction, you've decided to make racial slurs at me. That makes you a sociologically dysfunctional racist.
Hugh Jass your a racist pig.

I can’t help you there, amigo, but be advised that posting homebrew porn is strictly forbidden in these parts per Flavio.
[Edited out the rest of the message]
It looks like this is getting out of hand, so I have closed the topic and removed the “peculiar” avatar, sorry Paco, it might be offending to some (well, most of) people.
Flavio.
