Hi guys: I’ve recently purchased a Yamaha PSR E403 keyboard with USB connection to computer (doesn’t have midi in/out connectors) and I can’t get it to play Soundblaster Live’s internal synths sounds like I used to do with an old Korg Poly 800 (with midi in/out sockets that I used to connect to the soundcard joystick port) with N open and Midi output port set to SB Live Synth A (no sound is heard). However I can trigger (play) Reason sounds. I suspect the problem is that the soundcard has no midi input from the keyboard since the midi in/out connection is between the keyboard and the PCU and does not reach the soundcard. Any ideas?
Thanks
Hi, Jazo,
It’s more likely that the SB synth is ptoperly connceted to the SB audio output in the card’s mixer applet but not turned up.
Open the SB mixer (the playback section - not the recording section) by double clicking on the volume icon in your taskbar, and find the “MIDI” slider.
Make sure it is turned up and that its “mute” checkbox is unchecked.
HTH!

No, is not that, obviously is the first thing I've checked. I tried to find some kind of USB to 15 pin joystick cable but it does not exist.
In Preferences, do you have the Yamaha enabled as MIDI input device?

Yes, I've tried that of course. I believe the problem is a missing hardware connection between the Yamaha USB synth and the midi in port of the SB Live which is the 15 pin (female)joystick connector at the rear of the soundcard, since the Yamaha does make a midi connection to the USB motherboard as I can trigger Reason synth sounds from it, but this doesn
´t mean that it also connects to the midi soundcard port.
I will try this: USB type B keyboard female socket connected to the USB B socket of a "midi interface" via a USB B to USB B male cable, and midi in/out connectors from the USB "midi interface" to joystick port via the corresponding cable.
