I didn’t want to hijack Mike’s Believer thread so I’ll ask here.
I have not watched a single Idol show this year - fill me in - who’s gonna win?
When is it on?
David Cook
No comparison to anyone else on the show. If he looses hell will be freezing over.
Tuesday at 8PM Eastern USA Time – Results Wednesday at 9PM or sometimes 8PM.
David Archuleta has big fan base of young girls and will probably finish second. He’s only 17 and was an early favorite. He reminds me of Pat Boone…way to cleancut for R-n-R.
Americal Idol Season Seven
Yes, I should be shot for knowing all this stuff.
You really aren’t missing that much, unless watching Paula crash and burn is a pleasure.
not you too phooooo - after going through all 18 of your websites the other day I’m shocked!
I gotta start start watching now.
You know it’s funny but I bet I haven’t seen 60 minutes of Idol if you totalled up all the time I’ve spent watching it either as it was broadcast or in other media since it came out. Just no interest at all. The bits I’ve seen just seem pointless.
I’m not trying to be some sort of superior snob here or anything - heck, there’s nothing esoteric about my tastes. But it’s really just a talent contest, isn’t it? I mean, Ted Mack did this whole thing fifty years ago.
Ooh, my kinda subject
well, firstly i have to admit that i just can’t help but love David Archuleta (although his natural musical abilities make me slightly sick!) it’s not his style, I’m not even sure he has one yet, or his appearance, hes just another kid to look at, but it’s the way he so effortlessly opens his mouth and sings in tune, in time, perfectly pronounced etc etc etc…(like i said b4, sickening!)
Jason is indeed a one hit wonder, but tho he may only ever get it right once, i think he’ll get it right big time
conclusion…
gotta agree with Phoo, David Cook’s gonna win.
If there’s a CD I’m actually gonna pay for, (and listen too more to the point) it’ll be David Cooks
(not that i got time for all that American talent contest malarkey, i mean…cummon, what kinda person watches that stuff! hehe)
I don’t watch a whole lot of TV but I did set down to watch a mid-season Idol show with the wifey. I said then and I’ll stick too my guns on it. "That Cook feller is the only one up there with the “stuff.” Of course, American Idol and the American voting public (1) can be really stupid so I guess anything could still happen.
D
(1) “I’m votin’ fer him/her! He/She is cute!” (Can’t sing but…) Same way we elect our government BTW.
Unfairly or not, I’ve lumped IDOL in with all the other “reality” shows that have overtaken network TV, and have vowed not to watch. I’m sure my one man silent protest will eventually bring it all to an end. If not, I guess I’ll watch sometime.
Commendable Kevin. I’m with you… down with TV! Other than the History Channel and Discovery Channel, there’s nothing to watch anyway.
I’d have my cable turned off if I wasn’t afraid of my wife!
D
Oh, I watch TV, Diogenes. More than I should. I was just hoping that once the writers’ strike was over, viewers would be so tired of all the “reality” stuff, and the writers would be so inspired to get back to what they do best, that it would all be replaced. Guess I’m just getting grumpy in my old age. I think I’ll go watch C-Span now. (Hmmmmm… now that you mention it, I haven’t watched the History Channel in a while.)
For the record, I have watched American Idol… just not recently.
Oh man - I shouldn’t have looked at this thread.
I actually had never watched Idol until they did the Beatles thing.
Although some of the performers were OK, I just couldn’t stand the whole thing.
And this guy David Cook - what’s the big deal about him?
If he’s supposed to be some great, new rising star, then the music business is really sunk.
IMO - he was mediocre.
I could really care less aobut the pop/music biz because it’s all terrible IMO, which is why I don’t watch Idol.
The indie blogs & bands are where it’s happening nowadays, and even those are not very forgiving. I should also mention folk/new folk music because that scene is still pluggin along & is as good as it ever was.
If he's supposed to be some great, new rising star, then the music business is really sunk.
It's been drowning for quite a while IMO not sinking but already sunk. I haven't bought a commercially released CD in ... well... I can't remember when. Even then it was probably an older recording.
As far as Cook goes, he's the most talented on the show. Take that for whatever it's worth... He'll get a record deal and make more money in two years than you or I will in a lifetime. That's the sad truth of the matter. You don't have to be "good"... just marketable.
I'll keep listening to you guys and other indie artists on the webber-net thank you very much.

Everytime I think I want a new HD Flat Panel I think of the above and realize I don’t watch much TV.
She watches them all…idol, dancing, music awards and anything about history…funniest videos…(sometimes i’ll watch that.)
So I catch 5 mins here and there…
not big on tv…
cliff
I try to catch ‘House’ and that’s it - use to watch ‘Boston Legal’ but I lost track of it…
I am going to try to watch Idol just to see who is who this year.
He'll get a record deal and make more money in two years than you or I will in a lifetime.
Will he really make that much?
I wonder. He's the most talented only in some sort of formula based way.
As far as TV goes, I'm with you.
I did watch a nice concert with Sheryl Crow on HD this weekend.
I hate to admit it but I recently started watching GhostHunters out of shear boredom.
It's a pretty bad show but I get some laughs out of it right now.
TV shows I watch, Mash, Incredible Hulk, Mork and Mindy, Welcome Back Kotter!
oops, sorry 'bout that, haven’t watched TV in 30 years…
House is the only thing on that I make a point of watching. I was getting kinda hooked on Heroes, but it’s been months since the its most recent episode. I like Dexter better than I expected I would. Other than that, it’s just a matter of what’s on when I decide to watch. I can’t think of his name right now, but on Austin City Limits the other night an hispanic guy with drums, bass, two cellos, a violin, and a Gibson 335 backing him up downright amazed me.
Once in a while “Storytellers” might have someone fairly decent.
I saw Gillian Welch on one night…very cool songwriter. (wouldn’t make it on “idol” though.)
Also came across Green Day live on satellite.
They played the entire American Idiot LP and it sounded pretty good…(not good enough for “idol” though).
When I think about it, most of the genuine music idols (mine)would probably never had made it on “idol” so the credibility of the show doesn’t carry much weight for me. (lennon, mccartney, hendrix, plant, page, ozzie, floyd, stills, young, petty, mellencamp, cobain, vedder, jones, haggard, paisley, chesney…on & on).
I have my wife’s PC wired to my home stereo.
Friday and Saturday nights we like to connect to the Soundclick music charts (or others) and listen to indie music.
There are some really great artists on this ever shrinking planet…and they are 1000 times better than what “idol” is trying to sell.
Too bad the general public will probably never hear them.
And its funny when you’re listening and all of sudden your own music comes on…ha ha
cliff
T o be honest I really do hate TV. But the wife never misses Idol. I hear some of the songs out in the studio because she’s half deaf and can’t hear in the other ear and cranks the surround sound wide open. I will say all the contestants can sing, some better than others, but I ain’t heard no grammy winner on there yet.
There’s better singing and playing on the posted nTrack music forum!
I say we make Mr. Spademan Honorary American Idol! He gets my vote!
