Just a couple of little things...

First, every time I open N-Tracks, I get the message “can third party software communicate with N-Tracks?”.
Is there a setting to turn that off once I’ve clicked “Yes”?

Second, lately, when I’ve saved a new project under “Save As”, it always saves it as ST.sng on the root of the drive I’m working on, despite the fact that I’ve typed in my desired song name in the desired directory.
What’s up with that?

I’m using the latest version.

All I can think of is that you aren’t an administrator on the machine and files are attempting to be saved to locations that non-admins can’t save to. If that’s the case either add yourself as an admin or change the save to folder (for the sng) to one that is writable. As for having to click “Yes” every time, that’s probably for the same reason, but n-Tracks really should be able to save those kinds of settings without being and admin. Contact Flavio about that. It could be a bug.

(Then again it might not be the admin issue and to that I’d say…nevermind :) )

I have no problems with the Save As, I think Pooh is right about your settings.
The opening “Use 3ed part software” flag is something that several of us don’t like - particularrly as there is a check box for it in the preferrences, but apparently, not having the program know that you want or don’t want that feature at start up has been a problem for some people and Flavio added it. I’d like to see it go away myself.

allow 3rd party, is part of the process of sending and reccieving data (songs) from one PC running N to another over the internet (Win XP only) its OFF is in PREFS/PATHS, untick box - while in prefs on PATGS page set the directory you want to use for all saved projects/tracks (bottom one of the three long box’s)

So, why can’t we turn off the flag if we don’t want to share files over the internet? I thought the flag was asking about using things like JamStix - I guess not huh?

just untick the box in prefs and you will never be notified again - if you leave the box ticked it asks you if you want to use it everytime you start N just in case for that session you DONT want to use it - CONFUSED ? so was i -

Dr J

BETTER EXAMPLE - works in XP only -

say that i hear one of your songs in the other forum, i think “hey thats great” and very close to what i am doing, i PM you and say how about colaborating on a song, you say OK, we then set up the 3rd party NET TRANSFER function between us, now instead of having to upload tracks to another site and then download them again from there, now your PC can send tracks directly to my PC - this is OK, but if at the time i was in my studio and was burning a CD in realtime and you sent tracks across the resulting interferance on the audio out would trash the CD - so for that session i would say no to internet sharing and yes at all other times -

Dr J

Just to clarify - the “3rd party interaction” thing was something that Flavio added some years ago in response to a direct request here for the ability for users to write software apps/utilities to interact with n-Track. AFAIK it doesn’t really get used. Well, if it does now one posts their utilities here.

I can’t find the original posts which suggests that if happened before the last board meltdown.

The net transfer thing is something different.

So, I’m not sure what it does - allow internet song exchage or allow using software from other programs?
Unchecking the box in the preferences does make the opening checkbox Galway though. So I’ll guess I will discover if it keeps me from doing something I want to do with the program.
