Key Gating with NTrack

…Anyone know how?

I’m wanting to experiment with Key Gating…is there a way to do this with NTrack?

Cheers,
F

You mean having a signal from one track open/close a gate on another?

D

Dead, that’s right. Have you done it with NTrack?

my understanding–and I might be wrong–is it can’t necessarily be done with all DAW software. Protools accommodates it, but Cubase doesn’t, for example.

Do you know if NTrack can do it?

F

I don’t think n can do it Mr. Hop. The routing just isn’t there.

D

Thanks, Dead–

Wishlist, I guess.

some MIDI applications allow for a sort of gateing - NTD forinstance will switch the sequncer on/off and change patterns if you create a control track -

there are many VSTs (compressors etc) that will respond to key info - its easier for the dev to leave this to the VST programmers than spend a lot of time adding it in as a native feature -

Thanks, Magic–

So you reckon there might be some VST gates out there that allow for Key Gating and will work correctly with NTrack?

My searches this far have been unsuccessful, but maybe I need to keep at it.

MIDI aside, have you had success key gating with NTRack?

Cheers,
F

I think the VST’s allow for it - but N may not be able to route say to a
side chain input, which is what I think you want.

Ah, right.

Well, maybe we can be an earworm to Flavio.

OZONE 4 just added the feature (if I understand what you are looking for.) Far from free, but as a mastering software, not all that expensive.

That's the problem right there...

Ozone does not include a gate. You are thinking of M/S processing. Reaper can do side chained gating and compression.

I used to gate whitenoise for my snare hits on some studio mixes. Man did it sound good layered in just right.

Yeah, that’s already built into ReaGate too. And if you want to trigger MIDI notes (for sample replacement or whatever) ReaGate can generate MIDI. It is easily the best gate I have found anywhere at any price.

I used to have a sidechain gate/compressor plug-in that worked fine in n-Tracks but I can’t remember what it was now…sorry…it was at least one machine ago (and I didn’t use it very much). If I remember correctly all you needed to do was have two instances of the plug-in anywhere and they could be connected.

Yeah I remember that... but I can't remember the plug? The two instances took care of the routing... sort of. What was that thing...??

EUREKA!

This may not be the same but Mr. Hop should try it! The price is right…

EDIT: Hmmm… it’s not free anymore. 20 Bucks… that’s half a Reaper license. Poo…

That’s not the one, but it may be even better and easier. I say it’s definitely worth a try if you need that kind of thing. Looks good to me. Thanks for the link.
