LandScape Blemishes

or…What we’ve become

Sad really:

LandScape Blemishes

Didn’t know there were so many lawyers on this forum!

One afternoon, a wealthy lawyer was riding in the back of his limousine when he saw two men eating grass by the road side. He ordered his driver to stop and he got out to investigate.

“Why are you eating grass?” he asked one man.

“We don’t have any money for food,” the poor man replied.

“Oh, come along with me then,” instructed the lawyer.

“But, sir, I have a wife and two children!”

“Bring them along!” replied the lawyer. He turned to the other man and said, “Come with us.”

“But sir, I have a wife and six children!” the second man answered.

“Bring them as well!” answered the lawyer as he headed for his limo.

They all climbed into the car, which was no easy task, even for a car as large as the limo.

Once underway, one of the poor fellows says, “Sir, you are too kind. Thank you for taking all of us with you.”

The lawyer replied, "No problem, the grass at my home is almost a foot tall."

All you folks who are lawyers, hands in the air please.

Sartre put it well: “We choose our own dead.”

You know how they could solve their “homeless” problem? Stop pissin’ and moanin’ about them and take a few home with them. (Never happen with the folks who commented in the article…) Find 'em jobs… and support the churches or other organizations in the area that try to care for these people. We are fortunate where I live in that the occasional drifter is quickly taken in and given whatever help needed to either settle down or get to where they want to go.

I’ve done just that. I’ve employeed many over the years. I quit the Republican party when Nixon tossed the mentally ill into the streets by cutting off federal assistance. He left it up to the states. They have little or no incentive to treat the homeless because if they do they fear the homeless will make a run for their state and yes…that would happen.

What’s really sad to me is the attention this thread received. I didn’t expect to see some…but this forum has many liberals on it and I’m wondering if they are just rainy day liberals. God…what if they saw a homeless person breast feeding…then would they care. It’s very easy to become homeless in America. One third of the homeless are veterans. Over forty percent have mental/health disabilities. There are many children counted among the homeless. Many are families.

All it takes to become among the homeless is to not have anyone to fall back on if you become ill or unemployeed. Medical problems can cost you your job and the high cost of medicine can can cost you your home. It’s really simple and it happens relatively fast. It is very hard to get out of homelessness. How employable is someone who hasn’t bathed in days or has one change of clothes? The faith based money has gone where? Yes there are a few Churches that deal with this but they are not enough and I doubt they rely on much of the faith based money…to their credit. Where is that money?

I guess the only crisis’ in our country today are Gays and Abortion…for both parties…or the occasional nipple slip…baby attachment optional.

Sad…Really sad. :(

All too often it goes to build huge, beautiful buildings so they can gawk at them and go “My, my look how wonderful God can be!” These types are missing the supposed reason for their existence! This is one of the reasons my wife and I left the church we were involved with. They would spend gobs of money on fancy pews, carpetting and landscaping. When someone came up with a “help whatever/whomever” program, they were all of a sudden tapped out. It’s not just sad KF. It is SHAMEFUL! They (just like me) will get their “reward” when it’s all said and done though. What is to be said then?

What they really don’t get is that I will have a supervisory position in H e l l .

I’m in charge of roasting and we turn the spits VERY slowly.

A Joe Hill song seems appropriate here:

Long-haired preachers come out every night
Try to tell you what’s wrong and what’s right
But when asked about something to eat
They will answer in voices so sweet

‘You will eat, by and by,
In that glorious land above the sky
Work and pray, live on hay -
You’ll get pie in the sky when you die’ - that’s a lie!

And the Starvation Army they play
And they sing and the clap and they pray
Till they get all your coin on the drum
Then they’ll tell you when you’re on the bum . . .

Holy Rollers and Jumpers come out
And they sing and they clap and they shout
‘Give your money to Jesus,’ they say,
'He will cure all diseases today . . .

Working folks of all countries, unite
Side by side we for freedom will fight
When the world and it’s wealth we have gained
To the grafters we’ll sing this refrain:

You will eat, by and by,
When you’ve learned how to cook and how to fry
Chop some wood, it’ll do you good
Then you’ll eat in the sweet by and by - that’s no lie!

Of course there is the neo-conservative faction that believes the homeless have it pretty good. So much so, that they have organized an effort to get some of that “wealth” the homeless are hogging.

You have an oddly entertaining sense of humor, King. :)

One summer in college I lived off bagels taken from the dumpster behind the local Bagel Factory store. Better than working! :)

Seriously, it is a great flaw in our political system - what forces anyone to represent the needs of the worst off? Nothing. They don’t have money, mostly don’t vote. Only things that would make any politician do anything about it would be compassion or the demands of compassionate voters with money and power.

Here’s an interesting thing:

KATHMANDU (AFP) - Nepal plans to seize lands owned by King Gyanendra and other royal family members and distribute them to the poor as it moves toward treating the monarch like a “normal citizen,” a minister said.

Legislation limiting the amount of property the king can hold will be drafted once an inventory of royal properties is completed, Land Reforms Minister Prabhu Narayan Chaudhary said on Saturday in Kathmandu, the capital of the impoverished Himalayan nation.

“The seized royal property will be nationalized and handed over to poor farmers and landless people,” the minister told AFP, without giving a timeframe for the policy’s implementation.

I was once at an informal gathering in the house of a local lay preacher in the UK. The people present were heartily congratulating the lay preacher on his article for the parish magazine entitled " Societys’ debt to the homeless"
When I commented that, as he and his wife lived in a 3 bedroom house on thier own, and as it was Christmas, maybe they could take in a few of the local homeless for the holiday period and give them a few days of warmth and good food?
The reply from the lay preacher was " Don’t be ridiculous!"

Ah!! Charity begins at home. Unless your worried that the scruffy bastards might mess up your new carpet of course.

Darned lepers, prostitutes, and tax collectors…

Oh my gosh — Can’t sleep with poop anymore in Las Vagas

What will this mean for bed-wetters?

Perhaps it’s time to ask Flavio to make this part of the forum available to registered members only.

I know that’ll screw it for me personally, but this spamming will probably only get worse, so I really don’t see any alternative.

Spamming of message boards is the new spam. I have to regularly clear out crap in the message boards on phootoons – there aren’t many boards there and traffic is very low, yet there may be 10 posts a day to all of them from “marsa” saying "love you site. keep good work done."

Changing the link to the message board every few days, or whenever one is “discovered” helps. Once a link is found they will keep spamming until I move it to a different link. They folks are doing this by hand, since the only way to get to one of them is to click a series of dialogs to get in.

I tried blocking based on IP address but that does little good.

Forcing registration won’t solve the problem. They will just register under a new name each time. You’ll notice that some of the spam here is from members registered, and that have posted just once.
