Hey All,
I have decided to get a laptop to record some remote gigs…What kind of interfaces are you guys using? All of the firewire/USB devices I see have mic pre’s built in and I definately don’t want that…If I take the time to haul out some great discrete pre’s last thing I want is to muck it up with some cheap mic/line pre’s on the interface…Any out there for laptop that are just 4 (minimum, more would be better) balanced line ins? Since I would be recording live monitoring and latency are not issues…Any help would be appreciated…I will be mixing on the home DAW…
Cheers,
Ray

Worth a look.
I havfe a Layla 24. 8 digital and 8 analog in - that allows you to bring in 8 on the adat and 8 from and analog sourse. It can run from a PCI card in a dektop or from the PCMCIA cardbus on a laptop. They are discontinued by Echo, shick is a shame because they work great. I did have to run a “fix” to get the cardbus to work on my new computer but Echo has the fix on their site. The cardbus is not subjsect to all the problem s athat are being experienced by firewire users adn pc computers. It would be worth your time if you could find on at eBay or someplace. Do not confuse with the Layla 20 - it’s a good box but does not use the cardbus. If you go for Firewire unit, make cetain that your chips are TI, and that you can return the Firewire interface is it doesn’t work on your laptop.
