Video File Converter…
Hi n-Trackers:
I’m on the search for a Utility/Application/Program that will convert video files from one file extension to another… a FREE program would be nice, as well…
I have a DVD that has a music program that I’d like to edit some scenes from the image file…
It is an .iso 2.817gig. image file that I’d like to convert to an .avi or .wmv extension…
The Video Editor I have is able to see those file extensions…
but not an .iso type of file…
I have done little-if-any video editing, so it would be nice if the utility were easy to use…
File-in
new-file extension out…
I’d like to be able to “Rip” the audio from the file so as the audio could be processed with-in n-Track…
as well…
Is there such a converter utility out there that can do this??
Bill…
Hi Bill,
It’s a bit fiddly but possible with free tools. There are plenty of tutorials around too.
First you need to rip the DVD onto the PC. Many people agree that DVD Decrypter is probably the best (DvD DeCrypter). Tutorial here:Tutorial
Then you need to convert the VOB files into Avi or whatever. AutoGK will do that for you (http://www.autogk.me.uk/).
Then as for editing there are plenty of options but I’ve not done much myself. For simple things you can use Windows Movie Make that comes with XP. I’ve had reasonable results with it. Also “Virtual Dub” seems to be well respected but my experience of using it is limited (http://www.virtualdub.org/).
Hope this helps until someone more knowledgable comes along.
Sorry about the links in the post above but I’m sure you can cut-and-paste
Forgot to say - you may need to burn the ISO to a DVD for the above tools to work.
Oh, and Reaper will rip the audio out of some Video files without blinking.
Hi XonXoff:
Thank you for that reply regarding this DVD Project I’d like to proceed with…
I have taken the Show from a VHS Cassette that was done way back in the early '70’s… Hey, it’s even in Black-and-White…
I think it was recorded then…
Anyway, It’s on a DVD now, and as well, on one of my hard drives… The Editors that I tried up until now likes to "Stream the file from the DVD, as opposed to from the Hard Drive…
It will open on any number of DVD Players including WindowsMediaPlayer 11…But up until now I haven’t found an editor that will edit the file in the extension it’s in…
Whatever that is…
The Editor I’d like to do it with opens AVI and WMV extensions…
So, if AutoGK will convert the file to one of those extensions, I’m off-and-running…
Thanks…
I have VirtualDub and DVD Decriptor installed but I haven’t found a way to convert the extension using those utilities…
Video work around here isn’t something that’s been done here…
or Very little…
Maybe, today I’ll get the file converted…
We’ll see…
Thanks again…
Bill…
Hi again XonXoff:
I went to that page… to download the EXE…
I’m forbidden to download that application…
on any of the site links.
However, I found
THIS PAGE
I’m downloading the file now…
some 41 meg…
in size… Huge EH ? It came from the link you posted…
Maybe, I’ll get the project started with this application…
Bill…
oooooo, 40 Meg by modem.
Not sure why you had trouble with those links. Try googing the application names - I’m sure there must be other sites.
One other app I forgot to mention is FlaskMpeg - another swiss army knife for video. Free too.
The best one I know of that is free (or otherwise) is Super Video. This utility can convert video and audio files from just about any format(including Flash videos!!!) to any other. It takes a little getting used to (the GUI is not that easy to follow), but it is very powerful.
Enjoy!
Mike
Hi Gents:
I downloaded that converter…
It’s beautiful…
Of course…
there’s a deal on…
All 26 utilities are on till the end of the month for the price of one program. The Converter is 69.00 for ever-updates…
plus all the other editors/utilities/applications/programs…
audio and video they produce. Half the price for one year’s updates.
I didn’t have trouble with the links…
I had trouble (the link was unavailable for me to download) authorizing the link to download.
It just wasn’t available for me to download…
It had to be registered to open the link to download the file…
I think… That converter was a hi-priced one…
Some 325.00 worth…
I think…
Again… I stand corrected…
I’ll bet it worked good…
for that kind of money…
DrGuitar:
I’m gonna look at that Super Video converter…
You see guys…
I have several VHS video clips that I’d like to post but I need to edit the shows to get the clips from the VHS Tape…
When my brother was alive he had all the CBC Hardware at his disposal to do all that editing…
It was so easy…
You never miss the water till the well runs dry…
If I’m not tracking I may as well be doing something instead of waisting all this time away…
Bill…
Hi DrGuitar:
The SoftPepper Converter/DVD-to-AVI converter utility is 24.95
I’m downloading it now…
~13 meg in size.
Not bad for me to download.
Anyway, I’m taken away by that other deal that’s going on with the one I’m testing…
Until it’s bought-and-paid-for there is a “water-mark” to keep you from using it…
That’s O.K.
But I can see that all the other utilities that are thrown in, I don’t know what’s keeping me from taking the plunge…
There’ll be enough utilities there to sink this old P-111…
That’s if I can get it all downloaded…
In some reasonable length of time…
Bill…
Bill, that is the wrong converter! You need to download SUPER video converter. It is totally free! It is about 26 meg in size and includes ALL CODECS needed to run the program properly. I have this file hosted for a limited time here.
As far as the SUPER video site, I think they purposely make finding the download difficult so that you have to read through the information.
Take care,
Mike
Edit,
GRRRRrrrrrr, I cannot download files that are larger 10meg in size from this hosting site. I think you are going to have to scroll through the pages to find the proper download. Look carefully and you will find it.
Hi DrGuitar:
Thanks for that link to that utility… I’ll get busy and download it… O.K. I see your limitations… I’ll go to that Home Page and see if I can find the one you refer to… The one I downloaded is O.K. except for the price…
Bill…
Hi Gents:
Thank you for getting me pointed in the right direction for doing video editing here…
I discovered the issue I have with opening those download URL’s that you posted for me… I have PANDA Security/AntiVirus 2008 + Firewall installed here on my setup…
The internet firewall utility is treating those download links as a security threat…
Therefore no access to those download files.
For me to download those EXE files I have to turn off the PANDA Firewall…
Then all those links you posted are open for me to download…
Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction to enter me into the Video Game…
Bill…
Hi DrGuitar:
I found the correct link… The file size is something over 26 meg. in size. However, the server that the file is on doesn’t support resumeing the download… I use GetRight here… but no GetRight works on this download…
Bill…
Bill,
The current version is dated July 4th 2007 and is 26.7MB in size.
The ‘official’ download link is here -
http://www.erightsoft.info/GetFile.php?SUPERsetup.exe
They specifically warn against using download managers so I’d skip using GetRight.
By the way, I use this program occasionally but I’ve found it has a confusing GUI and tends to crash alot - mind you, that could be because I’m confused by the GUI and therefore use incorrect settings.
For capture and editing I usually end up using VirtualDub but it is limited in its ability to convert - just changing some formats to .avi - it won’t work with .WMV at all.
Microsoft produces a free encoder to convert most file types into .WMV (or .wma for audio) - http://www.microsoft.com/windows…lt.mspx
it’s a resource hog though.
Thanks Gents:
I got that Converter downloaded and installed…
You’re right Bill Clarke…
It looks like a million dollar utility…
I’m gonna put it to work and see-what-I-can see…
We’ll see what happens.
I have this P-111 so we’ll see what process speed it has… If I can produce an AVI File with it.
I’m off-and-running…
AND…
If I can get it to recognize the input file I’ll import to it, is there any quick advice to get it to convert the file to AVI?
I thought I’d just leave default happen for short of trying to screw it all up…
and see what happens…
Bill…
Just keep in mind - I’m not very good with this program!
As I said before, this is a very powerful tool (and a bit complex for the uninitiated). I generally stick with many of the standard parameters since screwing around with bitrates and such can cause the program to crash (I think mostly because I do not know the limits of the codecs used).
It is a great program though and will convert just about any video file to nearly any video format (including those great Flash Videos on Youtube).
Good luck,
Mike
PS,
What are you doing with a Pentium 111? That can’t be what you are using!?!
Hi Again DrGuitar:
I didn’t end up with a converted file that I can see with any player…
I must have done something not right…
I’ll have another go with it and maybe this time I’ll do it correctly…
It took about 10 minutes to produce to file that it created but I couldn’t see anything…
This P-111 I have is what I call my “Main Machine”
It does everything I do with the setup I have-and-use…
I have two other machines in the Studio…
Another P-111 and a P-4…
They all make up the set-up I use here…
They are all LAN’d together…
If you’ve seen any of the Print Screens I recently posted…
they were done on this P-111
1200 mhz. ASUS/Intel machine…
Bill…
[EDIT]
Hi Bill Clarke:
Thanks for posting those replies along with the images you put up… I’ll config. the set-up like you showed and maybe I’ll get something to work, this time…
