MIDI Drums, Violins, Brass, Guitars

bringing MIDI drums to the masses

MIDI DRUMS - VIOLINS - GUITAR - SAXAPHONE - BRASS -

first -

how to set up N to play GM MIDI DRUMS using a MIDI keyboard -

if you want to try out an idea and dont want to commit to a SPECIALIST DRUM replacement application, you can - N track has a 47 drum and percussion kit built in -

in my many incarnations on this board, i have never heard from anybody who has tried this, so heres how -

insert a blank MIDI track, in the preference panel set the CHANNEL BOX TO
10 -

now open the piano roll - left click IN the keyboard, from the POPUP box select GENERAL MIDI DRUMS - now use the ZOOM IN icon to bring the drum list into focus (IE you can read them ) DONT FORGET TO SET MIDI OUT to the M$oft wavetable synth - click on LIVE and you should have drums galore -

now you need to know what key on your keyboard play what drum -

sorrry the list does not look good - its correct in the input page but something does not translate correctly when it get here -

so there you are - as N now records MIDI LIVE you can lay down a drum demo track as easy as can be -

BUT - MIDI keyboards are meant to play keyboard based instruments and nothing else - the more you progress with MIDI the more you will find that you just cannot control anything that does not have a keyboard, think, All string instruments, all brass, all percussion etc -

NOW WHY -

well when you press a key on any MIDI kbd there will be a time delay between you pressing the key down and the contact under the key closing, no matter how fast you press the key down there will still be a delay - so what is the answer -

this is what i have, and it works - there are others available, (thats what GOOGLE is for)

OK, so it only has 16 pads but you can program banks and banks of 16 notes a time and changing between banks is very fast - these pads are far faster to work that a key board so you can really get into articulatng an instrumant -

Nice to have that info - thanks Wabbitt.
