MISSING DIALOGUE!

Hi Ange,

That’s a really nice one. Pleasant in it’s simplicity but beautifully constructed harmonies and great use of your voice. Nicely worked lyrics.
Congrats!

Ian

Thanks Ian :D
I’m, starting to think I should start sending some songs to some producers etc, I’m not going to get anywhere if no-one hears my stuff, I set myself a time limit so I have a good crack at it but have time to change career if I’m not good enough…

I was thinking of doing a CD with 3 songs, I’m not sure which ones yet but I think I might make ‘missing dialogue’ one of them.

However, I really am shooting in the dark now so please…anyone got any advice,

-should the songs be clips or full songs?
-is 3 enough?
-which songs should i put on it?
-how should I present it?
-who should I send it to?

Ange x

  1. Full songs
    2. Yes, maybe two
    3. Your best ones
    4. On printed cd with cover. To look professional
    5. Reputable publishers

Poppa is the man for this, as he has been there and done that.
You are UK based aren’t you?
    Join the PRS.
Join the international songwriters association and get their up to the minute publishers’ lists. These include publishers looking for performers as well as songwriters.

Go for it gal! (I’m having a go meself)

Oh, nice tune by the way.

Yep, I is a Somerset gal! :;):

Thank you, Sounds like I got a lot of research coming my way!
You say to make it look professional? Do you think I should send it with an inlay then?
I was gonna put a cd (Title etc printed on the cd) in a plastic wallet with a business card (contact details and web site etc) and a CV type write up with lyrics etc!
Do you think just a cd with all that on an inlay would be better?
Should I include song backgrounds and lyrics? Or keep it simple and to the point? ???

“I’m having a go meself”… :agree: 'mazing… I was hoping you would, I’ll be praying for you, who knows…
maybe we’ll meet one day at some big celeb ‘red carpet’ event

From what the International Songwriters Association says…
A printed cover and inlay etc. would be best.

The more professional looking the better, with a very brief letter, and a lyric sheet.
Oh, and a return envelope.

If you are pitching to American publishers, apparently you need permission from a lot of them before you submit.

As I say, Poppa is the man on this.

I’ll see you at the red carpet event…even if I am just a spectator!! You deserve success!

You might think about more than one path to success. E.g., get a band together and do a good CD (not too costly these days really), work on an identity and build a strong local following. Some companies are looking for finished product, so all they have to do is plug you into their promotion machine and take things to a wider audience.

That's a good way to look at it. but it's all so complicated!...if only...

Although I like the idea of that, I see myself a songwriter more than musician/singer I have a lot more confidence in my writing and feel that I'm not the whole package (image, voice, etc) guess I'm kinda hoping to just promote selling my songs and if someone picks up on my voice or thinks i can perform too along the way then that's a bonus!

What I don't wanna do is waste time or spend any more money on this, I'm trying to stay grounded and realistic so I can support my family in the future, (financially the only other way forward would be a loan, I'm scared to get into debt over a dream.) Although i'm starting to think that you have to invest to get anywhere with this...It's getting to complicated at the moment, it'd be really nice to get a manager :)

(saying all that...how cool would that be? A band? I'd be on top of the world!)

Aye, and there's the rub.....

Being a professional dreamer I find this statement quite odd.
Real dreams come true. Dreams become reality. I understand the attitude though, I worked through it for years.

The realities of life and the dreams of the heart do not have to be in conflict with each other is what I'm trying to say.

Having just seen another 'dream' become reality and being able to stand in front of a group of nay-sayers who never 'believed' and simply say "Welcome to my dream" trust me you have to dream. The dream itself creates it's own work and reality.

The reality becomes this. We must dream. Just dream...

Ange,

I can tell you what my songwriting/recording partner did. He befriended a guy that runs a commercial studio by doing some freebie vocals on some of his tracks. The trick is this guy has a lot of connections in Nashville. Many of my buds songs get in front of those people and while he hasn’t hit the big time yet. He has stuff out there and actually had a country music CD do pretty well in Europe a buncha years ago. Make sure your stuff is protected first of all. Whatever copyright procedures you need to follow in the UK, do it. Then network around a bit amongst the commercial studio crowd. You just might make the right connections. If asked, do a few background vox or whatever “gratuitement”. Then as things progress, bring in some of your stuff for the studio cats to hear.

D

Ange, getting into the music biz I have no idea, but the song you posted is very good!

I LIKES IT!
