I just got a Carvin CM87S in the mail last night (http://carvin.com/products/single.php?ItemNumber=CM-87S&CID=MIC) and I gotta say, after some initial tests, this mic is awesome. Sounds smooth and clear and open on both steel and nylon string guitars, and on vocals too (haven’t tried it on anything else yet).
For reference purposes, I also own a 57 (unidyne), and a Shure BG4.1 condenser. The Carvin blows the BG4.1 away (and it’s a good sounding mic too). Looking at prices, the Carvin is about $90 more than the BG4.1, and the price difference is unquestionably worth it. If you’re looking into a more expensive LDC, I’d definitely recommend this one.
