Looking for Flavio’s response
I notice that it has been over 4 months since the final version of nTrack was posted on the download page. I also have noted topics in the forum discussing bugs with build 2313. It would seem that Flavio would continue to issue bug fixes on Version 5 while building Version 6.
I also searched on username Flavio Antonioli in the forum and found that he had been responding at least once or twice a month until September 2007, then once in December 2007 to this thread, and not since. Add to this the fact that bug fixes and updates were coming sometimes weekly, then stopped totally on October 28, 2007.
If Flavio is really working on Version 6, it would seem to be good business to still provide bug fixes for the current version. It would also seem to be good business to keep a presence in the forum and promote on the website the new and exciting features coming in Version 6, etc. But, this isn’t happening.
Don’t take me wrong. I love n-Track and use it a lot and want to continue doing so. I also have repeatedly mentioned Flavio to others as an example of good responsive support from a software developer. But, I am getting a bit uneasy about this change in behavior compared to the many years of experience I have had with n-Track and Flavio.
I will send a support request to Flavio asking him to respond here. I also welcome other users comments. I know there is a topic called “Is N Dead”, but that topic has drifted quite a bit off topic and is seven pages long, so I wanted to get back to the specific point with this posting.
I never have had a problem communicating with Flavio.
Here is his answer to an email I sent early this month.

Version 6.0 should be released within a few months, approximately
late spring or early summer.
Best regards,
Flavio Antonioli.

Early summer, Late spring
Plenty of time to write some great new tunes and have them ready!
Thanks Poppa Willis for your comment and the information. I guess that is my point. You had to write Flavio to ask about Version 6. If every person has to ask separately, that is a burden on both the user and Flavio.
With the jump from version 4 to 5 there was a 10-week gap from the last version 4 build to the time Flavio officially announced version 5 was coming soon. Since it has been 19 weeks now since the last version 5 build, almost twice the time, I was beginning to wonder.
By the way, I didn’t mean to imply that Flavio isn’t responding to support requests. Just that he isn’t providing any information on the status of n-Track. For the record, I never did get a reply to the two support requests I sent on October 16 and the one on October 27, 2007, regarding the playback speed problem and the filename space problem, respectively. Since I solved the first problem and worked around the second one, I didn’t pursue them any further. But, I must admit that the lack of responses added to my concern about n-Track’s future.
One might infer from Mr. Antonioli’s comment on another thread that the next version is going to have a significant number of changes.

Where do you see that comment? All I found was Flavio saying "I have started working on version 6.0 so there won't be new releases for a while" in the "Is N Dead?" topic.

I haven't received reports of show-stopping bugs with version 5.1.1, otherwise I would have released new bug-fix builds.
I expect to make a public announcement about the release of version 6 very soon. The first beta will likely be released in April. It will contain new features as well as a reworking of the internal architecture to make the program perform better with lower buffering settings hopefully solving the hickup problems at low latencies that people have been reporting since version 4.0.
Flavio.
a reworking of the internal architecture
There you go, vivona!

This is definitely good news.
If Flavio follows the history of DOS…
v. 2.11 This is what really got the DOS going - a good version
v. 3.3 This is another good version - especially on Toshiba laptops
v. 4.x An awful version - never worked right
v. 5.x A good version with DOS shell
v. 6.22 The best version of DOS made
So here’s hoping…
excellent…

Flavio,
Thanks for the update. I really enjoy using n-Track and was just getting uneasy with the longer than usual delay between versions without any announcements. I am about to start a new album project and I just didn't want to find out that n-Track was quietly going away.
Actually, version 5 has worked fine for me at build 2287 before some of the volume envelope and filename bugs appeared. I like to find software that really works for me and stay with it, and n-Track has been my DAW of choice for years. I am sure version 6 will continue that legacy.
Thanks, again for the update, and feel free to keep us informed and to seek our input on features. It has been your connection with the users that has set n-Track above the competition.
Well where is it??
