Without a left-Hand Margin
Hi Gents:
I’m building this P-4 with software…
However, I don’t have a Board link without the left-hand margin on it…
I know I have one but I am unable to find it and I don’t know how to type one in…
[EDIT]
Could someone post a link up here for me Thanks…
Bill…
Does this help Bill?

Hey Mark A:
Thanks for the link… It’s sure does.
I’m working away at these old machines.
I am streamlining this P-4 for Internet and browsing use.
It’s a shame to have to do this to a Studio Computer.
It going to make the boot drives on this machine vulnerable to security attacks. I’m working on installing printer and scanner hardware driver and software on the XP Boot Drive.
I’m gonna try to keep my hands off the '98SE boot drive…
I’m gonna attempt to keep that drive as pristine as I can keep it…
We’re getting hammered this afternoon with a gale and snow…
The temperature is on it’s way up to above freezing…
The-sooner-the-better.
We don’t need anymore snow around here…
It’s the change-over to rain that’s gonna hurt us…
(Ice and All)…
Anyway…
Bill…

Hi Bill, make sure you get a Firewall installed on that PC before you connect it to the 'net.
It's a shame you are not on broadband; I always suggest that folks use a modem/router when using broadband, rather than a USB modem connected to the PC. Effectively using a router "hides" the computer from the outside world as long as the router is setup for NAT - Network Address Translation - and they generally are. That way the only thing visible from the Internet is the router.
Hope you get it sorted. Shout if you need any help
Hi Mark A:
I’m still working away on this rock pile. Thanks for the advice on a firewall for this '98SE operating system… I am on-line with '98SE Desk as I type this reply… The XP Desk has a firewall… but, as I am booted to…and… connected to the Internet using the '98SE Operating System I have no protection and security from the Panda application… It’s installed on the XP Drive…
I have AVG Free antivirus installed on the '98SE Desk… It is current and up-to-date with security and definitions and all… but… No Firewall… I am waiting for a download link from AGNITUM. They have a free Firewall that can run on '98SE… I will use that to see have it behaves with this setup…
Working Away…
Bill…
I’m back Again:
O.K.
I have a Firewall installed on the '98SE Desk…
It looks like a million loonies… I hope it works as good as it looks…
The free firewall I installed is on this link…
It works with '98SE
In my quest to find a free Firewall there didn’t seem to be many that offered '98SE as the Operating System…
It looks like it has lots of config. possibilities… We’ll see.
Bill…
that is wild, how’d you guys come up with that,
i hated that margin
Hi wozz:
Way back when…
The board used to get hit/hijacked by whoever…
Then it would get fixed by Flavio and then hit again …
The Board members of the day and many of them were pretty clever guys…
Many of them are still here…
they would help the guys get back on the board and while doing so would post links to help them get back on…
The links contained Directions that only directed the browser to open the ikon page and not allowing the page to direct/add all of n-Track to the link…
My reply may not be accurate…
But someone can post the correct/real answer to how that works… BUT…
It’s a nice way to view the Board and post to the Board without all the distractions…
Hi Mark A:
I am getting closer to getting this P-4 '98SE Dual boot machine settled in.
I did a scan of the "98SE part of this machine to find three worms…
I-Worm/Opas D
I-WormOpas P
and
Worm/Protoride.EZ
As much as I know…
Those drive reported CLEAN with Panda…
The other day when I began the work I’m doing on this P-4 Machine…
What gives ?
Anyway, I’m still working away on this rock pile…
Bill…
[EDIT]
I forgot to mention… Internet Explorer v7 doesn’t work with '98SE… I attempted to upgrade to the latest version of IE and a pop-up screen came up say that…

The site uses "frames" which is a little bit dated nowadays but hey.
I did "view souce" of the forum page, saw which page it opened for the right-hand frame, added a little bit of magic sauce (ok, ok, I cut and pasted it and added the root part of the domain), and there you have it.

Yep, those worms probably found their way in in the time it took you to download the firewall. If you google their names you should find instructions to remove them. Personally I use the AVGfree (google it) which I found to be excellent.
As for IE7, try Firefox for a decent, tabbed, browser. I'm not sure if it supports 98SE but I use it on all my machines.
i run firefox on my 98 se set up.works great…
i havent used IE in quite a while
Hi Gents:
I am still working on this Dual Boot Studio P-4 machine…
It’s Settling in quite nice as an Internet machine I still have some details yet to Get it to where the P-111 machine once was… I need to re-install n-Track v4.xx
and
V5.xxx on the '98SE Drive…
for some reason…
There’s a ERROR SCREEN that opens when I launch n-Track v4
and v5…
However, both versions open perfectly on the XP Boot Drive…
I’m looking for advice here…
I think I’ll take your advice and install FireFox on the '98SE Boot drive…
Should I un-install the IE v6 from the drive before I install FireFox?
OR How should I best proceed with that task?
AND
should I consider Mozilla …
as well…
for the Mail Utility?
There’s lots of guys that I communicate with that don’t understand why I’m still struggling with the browsers and mail utilities I use…
The guy over at the Server Office…
He is down on anybody that uses IE and Outlook Express on their machines…
Anytime I send him mail or call him on the phone for any reason he usually tares a strip off me before we hang up for using that stuff…
He appears to be DOWN on anything To-Do with MicroSoft-or-Windows…
I’m gonna be off work next week… The schools shut down for what is known as, March Break…
It gives all the teachers a break…
They earn enough money for them to go south for a little R-and-R…
I struggle to keep my heating fuel tank in fuel…
GO-Figure…
I think I’ll be using that time to get busy with this P-111…
We’ll see…
Bill…
Hi Bill,
Just leave IE as it is on the machine (It’s so tightly integrated into windows I’m not sure you can remove it as such).
As for email, yep, Thunderbird works just fine here on all my machines.
Thanks Mark A:
I’ll do just that… Should I leave Outlook Express where it is as well ??
Yep. Won’t hurt.
Hi Gents:
This link worked like a charm till a day-or-two ago…
Forum link without the margin
However, the margin has re-appeared with this link… I think I’ll delete the cookies and have another look …

Hi Bill,
That's the wrong link. You need to use the one I posted up on the first page of this thread. That one works.
Mark
Back Again:
I deleted the cookies set by the Board…
I opened the link stored in the browser IE 7.xx.xx
and the browser reported that the link could not be opened. I deleted all the links the did not contain .cig in them.
I closed and re-opened the browser and link now works…
Could it be that this v7 browser that I have is not behaving correctly?
Why I say that…
In the bottom left-hand corner in the tool-bar margin as I surf… the browser reports that the page is being shown
BUT…
with errors…
That happens most of the time
as I browse… It doesn’t matter where I browse…
Computers
Computers…
Puters
puters…
Bill…
[EDIT]
I’m able to edit this post…
I forgot to add that the toolbar just above the page…
the one that has the "Favorites/Add Favorites
and
the one that shows the tabs .etc…
Anyway, the browser at one time would always show the page that is selected/defaulted…
Now I have to cursor to that tool bar margin to open the page…
It seems as though the only page that is defaulted to open is the HOMEPAGE…
Could it be that there is an IE7 Pro v2.0
(The browser I have on this machine)
has some preference adjustments that I need to address ? I know that everyone I know is telling me to move on and get out of this browser IE 7 …
Thanks for you being here…
Mark A:
I am still working on this link thing yet…
as you can see…
Anyway, I’d like to remove-and-edit any links that don’t work correctly…
It’s a slow process…
Maybe, one day I’ll get all those links removed…
As you can see…
my housekeeping needs some addressing…
and that too…
It’s one storm after another coming outta the USA …
Today, we are getting rain… BIG TIME…
instead of snow-and-ice…
It’s gotta stop…
I need some sun on me…
North of where I am it’s all ice and snow…
Whatever link I have now is working just great…
It’s this one…
A working link
whatever it is…
I’m sure I’ve used thi one this morning…
For some reason it gave the margin…
I think…
Bill…
