Tony - file a report on it. I would. If you can gather as much info on errors etc. I’m sure Flavio will look at it, but remember all he can do is make sure what he has built works. What’s beyond your copy of n and how it’s connected is another area. Report it though, sure.

Hey - I just sent a track file to myself over the internet using N’s ‘net transfer’, and it worked. I just followed the menu info under ‘TRACK/net transfer’ and enabled my computer to recieve. Selected a track. And from the status/details of my IP connection put in my client IP and hit OK button. I recieved the selected track on a new track on the timeline. Pretty cool.
Thing is you would have to send an email with your dynamic IP address each time you log into your ISP - but not too much of a problem. Neat way to collaborate - not exactly real time but not bad for kicking around ideas.
Wow! Nice one SOE. We inch closer. But I think we tried that(you might say, “obviously not”) and you could be right - it was late and I’d begun to drift.
The friend I’m working with, who is much more au fait with such things, went off-line three days ago muttering something about “poxy class 3 IP’s” and “I’ll see what I can do - but don’t hold you breath”.
Thanks, SOE. I’ll try your method to myself when I get a chance.
If I suss this (thanks to you all) before my friend does my ego will be promoted to that of an 11yr olds
Wish me luck.
Bad news! Below is above friend’s findings.
snot an error, it an inability, one which many writers would have
basically we’re on NATed (network address translation)boxes giving us a class c’s (private networks of 256 devices for our homes) but appearing within a class a (big network capable of supporting 256 times 256x256x256) we can’t route between ourselves = software such as IM uses the routes offered up by the networks, we don’t have any route without mucho pissing around and even then as everything’s dynamic our addresses will have changed next time we try to use 'em so wouldn’t be any fucking use anyhoo. We need something thats designed to setup a VPN between us and which can use the network to define its own route - or even getting olde worlde a virtual circuit - and if you want to blind with science start waffling about IP being connectionless - now thats a fun dicussion
G.
I used to know a little about that sort of thing. Your friend is probably right. But I have a cheapo dial-up - and was thinking maybe if you both could get cheapo dial-up accounts - no NAT (mine is like $10 bucks a month) with cheapo modems, you both could connect to an ISP and could email your dynamic IP’s to each other while you are both online then send tracks that way. Maybe Flavio knows of a way to get you going. You should ask him.
More real’time recording. Marc Rosenberg just posted that they have received permissions from Q/time and are resumeing development of a pc version of Virtual Glass. This is a software program that allows a player to jam and record while seeing and hearing another player in a different location.
This will be very cool!

Woops I shouldn't have said permissions!
Marc said this; "We were issued our Win Quicktime SDK".
What ever that is supposed to mean.
I took it to mean permission, but maybe it's something that q/time had to develop for v/glass.
So if that's the case, permission has nothing to do with it.
Anyway, good news regardless!
Win Quicktime SDK
Windows Quicktime Software Developers Kit
A "kit" of software tools, written instructions and what not they probably had to buy from Steve Jobs. (Apple)
D
SDK is Software Development Kit. They have the code they need to develop for Quicktime on the PC.

Hey Phoo would you be interested in beta testing that?
In a simple session with me and a bass player? I plan on beta testing, I will have to get a better connection but I want to get in on it, month or two away I guess. Maybe sooner.
Sounds interesting!
This link isn’t quite what I had in mind - especialy as it being another leak in the bank acc’.

So, for now, we’ve throughn the towell in. But? I sent ‘friend’ packed sng file, and all he got, was settings. How can we swap ‘the whole thing’? Wavs and all
get a free file site like www.mediafire.com and upload and download to your heart’s content.
In one package?
yep - use your zip options to through 'em all in at once if you like.
and the whole track will get there as sent?
Yep. A packed song file or .sgw has all the files in it.
Done that, but all he got were settings?
sgw’s should have all the wav data also. Save as ‘packed song file’ there was a bug in one version that prevented correct file saving extensions.
