New Acquisition

I’m Back Again:

It’s rare that I get Antsey waiting for Big Boy’s Toys…
I’m agreeing with you on this one…
IT all happened way too fast for me…
Now I want to “Hand’s On” this thing…

Somehow this may get me outta this “Tracker’s Block”…
and…
give me something to-do for a month-or-two…

Well…
it would be a nice thought…

I hear on another topic/thread that Tom Hicks went the way of ADAT Tracking…
I know of guys that went that direction after Two Inch Tape, and never looked back…
and then there are the camps that wished they never parted with their Two Inch Machines…

Then I know of guys that are stuck between Two Inch Tape and Hard Drive/Turn-Key Tracking and find themselves unable to go forward-or-backward…

Bill…

Hi Bill Clarke:

I’m Antsy enough to be back here again…

I know you are aware…
There is a “Firmware” update to download and install on this Machine…

Bill…

[EDIT]

The “Tracking Information” is saying Nov. 21st…
to Cole Harbour Town…
But, I wouldn’t hold my breath…
:(

Yeah, but it appears to be a simple thing to do. It may even come already installed on the units we receive - depending on when they were made, I suppose.

BTW - tracking number check confirmed that my unit has arrived in Canada - I would think I will have it in my grubby little hands the first of next week!

:O
:O
:p

Don't you be gettin' MINE..
hehe.. Sorry...

[EDIT]
I'm acting like a kid at the candy store..

H2 Delivery update…

Nov. 20th… EST. Arrival Date at Cole Harbour NS.

Package scanned at FedEx Toronto, at 4:39pm. Some 1200 miles from here…
It’s getting closer…

I sent some mail off to the salesman, Ryan Murphy…
Asking if the “Firmware” update is/may have been installed on this build/unit…
I haven’t received any mail from him as of noon today…

Bill…

November 20th? Geeze-Louise, I think there’s a real possibility that you might be getting MINE!

My delivery estimate is November 14-22 for an order placed on Nov 6th. And I paid more for delivery than you did!

You may have made an impulse buy, Bill - but I think you outdid my researched one!

Who Knows ????

I must have said something…

Here’s my take…

Put the breaks on BOYS…
Stop whatever you’re doing…
I got a box goin’ to the East Coast…
Put this one at the top of the list…
This boys got a pocket full of Canuck Coin…
If we’re good to him he’ll break loose and send a little of it our way…
When yea got that order done…
come back
and check…
I think we got a few more orders goin’ out…
:p

Anyway, I’ll check…
If I got your order I’ll send it over your way… I wouldn’t want to crack the box open and find your initials on it…
OR…
for use only in Ontario…
OR…
Doesn’t work on the East Coast… OR …
Something…

I haven’t got any return mail from the Sales Guy regarding the “Firmware” Question, yet…
We’ll see…

Bill…

[EDIT]
You might not believe this, but I’ve heard this in a few places in Mississauga… north of the 401 and Dixie Road.

It goes like this…

What are you doin’ guys? Is that pallet goin’ to the East Coast? If it is, put that over in the far corner… I got a quick job for you… This box in going down to Brockville… When yea got that done I got a pallet goin’ over to Kitchener… Then do whatever you were doin’… Just get these back-orders done by this afternoon…

That would suit me - I live in Kitchener.

I got down the 401 as far as Kitchener once.
I brought a Miniature Horse from that area to the East Coast…
I would liked to have spent more time there… in that area…

My VISA Account doesn’t show the purchase yet.
It’s gonna be interesting how the VISA Makes the US/CAD conversion exchange…

Bill…

Up Date:

Scanned at Montreal at 7:55am.
This morning.
Next stop is Moncton, New Brunswick…
I believe. Should be late this afternoon…
We’ll see…

My tracking info stays the same:
"Arrived Abroad, November 14, 2007, 2:09 pm, CANADA"

It hasn’t changed since Nov 15th. I had hoped that maybe today… but no joy. I honestly suspect you’ll get your first. Stupid post office!

That’s a shame.
I’m really surprised that my shipment is out of Montreal and on it’s way to the East Coast…
So-Soon. It left Montreal at 9:20 am this morning.

Remember, The shipping is costing me $20.00…
I’d like to know what the money exchange is gonna be… However, it’s not on my VISA account yet…
I’ll check right now… NO…
It’s doesn’t appear, yet…

I’m thinking about calling FedEx in the morning to see if they’ll check the tracking # for me in the local shipping to my address…
I’m home till 1:15pm…
then if they do come, I wouldn’t be home…
If they keep it on the delivery truck till tomorrow I wouldn’t have to go to Burnside chasing after it…

Tomorrow afternoon I have to go to the dentist … How am I gonna buy toys if I have a dentist account to pay… ????

Bill…

[EDIT]
You know… that doesn’t sound like the Post Office… I hope there isn’t any damage to your shipment… Do you think it might help if you gave the local office a call and ask some questions ????

Hi Gents:

I’m impressed…
The FedEx truck arrived at my driveway minutes ago with the H2 unit…
It arrived at the Halifax terminal at 8:22am this morning.
I am looking at the Sweetwater Waybill…
Shipping weight is 4 lbs.
The invoice doesn’t include shipping but the order amounted to $199.97…
on the invoice.

Checking my VISA Account …
it shows a debut of $220.16 USD…@ 1.0008 exchange rate…

VISA Account versus Sweetwater invoice
$220.16

$219.97
????
????

A difference of $0.19

Is that the cost of doing business ????
Well…
VISA or Ottawa has their finger in the PIE…

or both of them…

Looking at the Sweetwater invoice…
It says $334.99 Retail…
My price 199.97 + $20.00 S&H $219.97…

The box has the H2 512 meg. SD Flash Card a tri-pod stand Mic Stand adaptor Ear buds
AC Adaptor USB cable 3.5 mm -to- RCA Stereo cable Wind/POP Screen
and a Carrying Bag/Pouch…
along with a HUGE Manual along with a ZOOM warranty registration sheet that says Sampson Technologies Corp.

There you have it…

First impression…
This looks great…
:agree:
:p

Bill…

Hi Bill Clarke and All:

I continue putting the H2 through it’s paces…
According to and reading directions in the manual…
It appears to work flawlessly. As well, the manual is quite detailed and pretty well written…
Well, for me anyway…
When creating Hi-res. .wav files, the 2 gig. SD Flash cards are almost a requirement…
24-bit res. .wav files can “Eat up” the storage space on the Cards… Presently, I have a pair of 512 meg. cards…

I’m beginning to like the H2’s ability to re-write-and-render 4-channel surround files using the “Pan” utility…
This H2 has incredible potential… in-and-around music tracks…

Bill…

Still waiting for mine, Bill.

You might be interested in the numbers at this post - Here. Seems to suggest that, using the internal mics, there is no advantage to using 24 bit vs 16 bit. Considering the extra file size that may be a consideration. I haven’t seen any similiar numbers for the Line-In.

Waiting for the postman…

Hi Bill:

Thanks for your reply…
I would be concerned…
Do you think that this parcel is being held for you to pickup somewhere?
I know they put a delivery note in your mailbox informing you of something they have that couldn’t be delivered to you, for whatever reason… Your H2 Recorder has to be somewhere near where you live…
I’d like to see you trying to track this down…
Somebody knows where this thing is…

I’m gonna follow your link…
to see what’s going on there…
Maybe, you’re right…
I see it this way…
They make it easy to use the created files when they are imported into a setup that is configured to handle files of a certain res…
I noticed when I opened the files for import into n-Track that n-track re-sampled the files… I had to wait till my setup reworked them…
as I had n-Track config’d to handle 16-bit .wav files…
When I discovered what was going on I re-config’d n-Track for 24-/16-bit files…
I think that’s what I did…
However, it n-Track is not resampling the imported files anymore…
I don’t think…
I need to continue working on these technical details…
Before I start a project and record tracks with this H2.
IT has this feature…
After you have the H2 config’d to your use…
You can set the device to NOT Acknowledge any accidental button pushing that will disturb the way you have it config’d…
Only the record and stop buttons answer any commands…
Well…
something like that…

Before I go to your link I’ll say…
and I’m sure you are aware…
24-bit res. files go into a defaulted folder on the Flash Card.
16-bit and mp3 files are able to be directed to anyone of 10 folders on the same Flash Card depending on how you configure the “Folders” in the config. Panel…

This thing has a huge amount of possibilities around the Audio Business…
AND the fact that the Firmware is updateable…

On the negative side…
It does create “Handling Noise” (As All Mics Do) on the created files if you move-or-handle the unit while in the record mode.
To that END I can see mic stand and acoustic mechanical noise to be something to consider when recording tracks with it…
Some sort of a mic stand isolation/suspension mount might work well to that end…
????

Bill…

p.s.

I know…
I’m not plowing New Ground here…
I’m just reporting on how this H2 is behaving for me and the way I’m learning how to use it for my set-up…

Hi Bill:

I’m back again…

There’s some pretty serious testing going on with these guys on this H2 Recorder…
This thing appears have and be getting some BIG BOY’s attentions… Over on that Board…

Back some 10-12 years ago I got a Sony Portable MD ATRAC Recorder…
I heard IT was being used for some heavy duty applications in-and-around the Audio Gang…
However, after I got it setup and tried it out, it didn’t get much work from me and my setup.
I used it several times and now it’s just taking up space…
I think it lacked the ability to directly interface with a DAW and finally all you got with it was 2nd-and-3rd Generation tracks from it’s use…

This thing is different…
Well, In My Opinion…
IT IS…

Somehow, I disagree with some of the replies on that thread.
This is only because of all the arguments RADAR Wayne and I had with all the discussions of recording with the highest Bit Depth and Resolution you can muster with your audio hardware you can get…
I now agree that with all the track rendering you end up committing your “Magic Tracks” to as you Edit-and-Mangle your audio files down to the final two-track render…
In-The-End…

One-and-two Bits of information here…
Two-and-three bits of file res. here…
and…
SO-ON and SO-Forth…
Those are just some of the things I Ponder-and-Graple with, while I do what I do…

Anyway…

Bill…

Bill,

From that same forum - DIY Shock Mount for H2.

Edit - BTW, did your unit come with the latest firmware or did you have to upgrade? - Edit

It appears that there’s an H2 Cult developing outta it’s use…
I wonder if I qualify to register on that Board considering my age of 23 ????
OR would I get tossed out like a red-neck by the Board’s Bouncers…

:p

hehe…
We know your kind…
Get Lost…
EH
:p

Bill…

p.s.

That mount looks O.K.

I’ll initial-and-date IT…
BUT…
when you mount the H2 into the unit it needs to have a 360 degree Twist/Rotation into each of the Elastic Bands… to see how that idea behaves…

[EDIT] I downloaded-and-installed the Firmware update… from v1.01 to v1.02 However, it appears that the update covers Mac Users… Anyway, I did it to see… and IT worked… At boot-time the H2 version says it’s v1.02… The file size says some 870 kbs. in a zipped file…
