I imagined the tempo to be 90…

When I first saw this thread…
I’ll be following it’s progress…
For sure…
I can think a real drummer and disiplined bass player to be able to lead-and-lag the tempo…

Wow - I had no idea this would fly - been away for a couple of days.
Ok - I’m thinking along the following line.

First, I’ll record the guitar, as I ‘heard it in a dream’.
No tempo assigned yet, just get the idea to a file.
I’ll post idea to my web-site (for the time being).
and it will just be an introduction of the idea.
May use an open mic so as to comment.
Today is Friday Feb22 - like I say, I just got back to my main
place here in Fenwick DE.
So probably by tomorrow (night) I’ll try to get something (just
a simple .wav) with maybe some comments included.

Then, decide (with your input) about tempo - then create a
click track - and so on and so on and see where the heck
this baby floats.

Nothing too serious, just keep it fun and experimental, and
anything goes!

We already decided a temo - 90! Do your guitar to a click track. :)

Hi everyone,

First I need to ask a few favors.
In the interest of everyone participating, and consistency,

1 All files should be 16 bit 44100 (please)
2 Max length (before compression) 4 minutes
3 Everyone use WavePack to compress before uploading

To compress - use no switches
From command line prompt (make sure the .wav file to be compressed is in the working directory)
TYPE ‘wavpack filename.wav’
That’s it. It will create a .wv file in same directory.
(A 4-minute mono wave at 16bit 44100 size:20MB will compress to a approx. 7MB .wv file)
Uploading a 7MB file will take a little less than 1 hour at dial up speed.
That’s about as much time as anyone wants to spend uploading. So everyone can participate.

Type in password and proceed to INBOX where you will find a test file to download.
The file is a 1MB .wv file. (Just a trash test file) Download it to a folder [decom] for example. Then
in the Windows command line prompt: (make sure you have the .exe and the .wv file in working directory)
TYPE ‘wvunpack filename.wv’
This will restore to original .wav file.

Before I record and post (probably sometime tonight) I’d like to make sure everyone
can at least download the test file, decompress it, and open it in the DAW of their choice.

The bigger picture:
I want to keep this as simple and straight-forward as possible.
Sacrifices in sonic quality are neccessary in order to explore a truly
co-operative project. I’m more interested in establishing a way for all n-trackers
to collaborate (and share ideas).

It ocured to me that everyone might not be familiar
with using Wavepack in the command line environment.
So maybe a little more detail is in order.
After downloading Wavepack and unzipping the archive,
you will have two main executables:

1 wavpack.exe (for compressing)
2 wvunpack.exe (for de-compressing)

Copy these to a folder - ‘wavpack’ for this example
Then copy the file you wish to compress to the same folder

Then open a command prompt Start/All Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt
or migrate to C:\Documents and Settings\User\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\Command Prompt
Maybe create a shortcut on the desktop.

After double-clicking Command Prompt, you will have a DOS window with
something like this:
C:\Documents and Settings\user>
Type in at the prompt
‘cd C:\wavpack’ (for this example)
This changes to your target directory

C:\wavpack>

Type in at the prompt

‘wavpack filename.wav’

(and you will see it compressing the .wav file to a .wv file)

Do the same thing with the .wv file. Copy it to the ‘wavpack’ folder.
Type in at the prompt
‘wvunpack filename.wv’ (to de-compress to a .wav file)

Couldn’t be simpler and will save a lot of bandwidth.

Well I got a couple of files up.
See previous post on how to download them.
They are in the inbox - under Feb23upload.
Double click on that then you should see two files.
One is a crappy guitar effort (which needs to be redone)
even 100 Bpm was too slow for my liking.
The other piano melody is just an attempt to give you
an idea of - well the melody I had in mind. (Obviously, I don’t
play piano.)
I’m not even sure if this is something anyone wants to
dick with, but I guess it would be neat if maybe a competent
guitarist could re-do it at a quicker tempo, I’d like to hear drums
and bass and piano and saxophone and moog and everything.
It’s kind of a-backwards to try to build around a guitar (poor one at that). But if you load up guitar then place piano in the track below,
you’ll hear basically just an idea.
And that’s the point of this, - to see if it’s a viable way to
get some cheap thrills.
