UNMIXED After All
I just finished recording my bands new song After All yesterday. I’ve done some basic mixing through headphones and will mix it correctly on my monitors some time this week. The guitars, bass, and vox were tracked through a Line6 Pod X3 Live. Guitar wise there is just a couple of tracks with some marshall amps and a 5150 if I remember correctly. The bass was run through an Ampeg head with 8x10 cabinet. The strings were old so it doesn’t sound as good as I’d like but 5 strings are expensive to replace when it rarely gets used. The vox were tracked through the UK vintage preset with some minor tweaks. I’ve added the multiband compression for a RADIO like effect on some vocals and some basic reverb so far. The drums were tracked using the MIDI output of a Roland TD-3 kit and modified to be more accurate. MIDI output was then pumped into EZ Drummer and I went from there.
I know off the bat I need to autotune some of the vocals and the background vocals stick out a little too much for my taste. The guitars are also not as present as I usually like but many have said my tastes are usually TOO present so maybe that’s a good thing. Otherwise, constructive criticism on how to fix the mix up better when I get down to it would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Hi guitars, not bad for rough mix (headphones), other than issues you’ve stated above my only suggestions would be the snare needs cleaning up or eq-ed maybe.
Not my genre of music but I could listen with no problems!

thanks! when I go to actually mix this this weekend hopefully I’ll get the snare to fit in a bit better. I will probably redo my backup vocals since the singer and I were suffering from colds and I’m not happy with my performance.
I liked this. I think your recording captures this style.
When you say the bass, guitar and vox were recorded with a Pod, does that mean you recorded them with effects from the Pod? The one thing I might do is dial back the effects a little… make it a little more “raw-to-tape”. Less reverb on the bass, less compression on the drums, and more of both in the mix would make this heavier hitting, I think.
