On a Trucking Run…

Hi n-Trackers:

Today, I took a break from the sweat-box and went on a trucking run to Prince Edward Island…
Knowing I’d be a passenger on the return trip I took my camera along to capture some photos of the Confederation Bridge, crossing…
The bridge spans some 9 miles of the strip of water that separates Prince Edward Island from the rest of Canada, here in the Maritimes… It’s called the Northumberland Strait…

Anyway, for those of you who might be interested in seeing what this crossing looks like, here are the Photos I took… of the crossing…
It’s not the smoothest crossing in the world…
The speed limit is down to 80 kms per hour…
However, the view is fantastic…

Bill…

How can you stand to live in such a nice place, Bill? :)

I wouldn’t say that too-too loud…

When a Big Blow comes up the shore and tears the roof off your house…

Then yea gotta go up and nail on shingles…
Weather around here is just about number ONE on the conversation, topic list… However, we’ve been seeing some pretty awful stories of sever weather just about anywhere in the world…

This summer, I’ve been working on constructing a portable car port…
One of them canvas shelters…
Every one’s lookin’ to see how I’m doin’ with it…
I got the trusses up and anchored to the ground…
I’m just about ready to throw the canvas over it…
Yea see, it’s already happened when it blows away in the wind…
Yea see, where it’s setup there’s no protection to the weather, for it…
It’s in a pretty vulnerable location…
We’ll see…
???
:)

Today, I’ll take another set of photos of the trusses and setup…

Bill…

Well, it’s either a matter of pure strength in materials, or you might come up with some clever way of channeling the wind? Interesting problem.

Wow…that is a hell of a bidge…it screams out ‘classic rock’ albums and convertables…awesome :;):

Every-so-often you’ll see a traffic signal…
Anytime I’ve been on it (the bridge) the signal has always been
Green…
I don’t know what happens if it changes to RED…
????
Do you just Stop and wait till it’s all over…
Or What ???
I know …
when a Big Blow comes up they shut the crossing down to truck traffic…
If the visibility settles in they close the bridge down to all traffic…
BUT…
If the light turns RED…
I guess you jump off…
hehehe… Hope for the best…

You see…
if you’re in a car you can’t see over the concrete rails…
However, that’s what you see when you’re in a truck…
Much of that dirt on the windshield is
Salt Spray…
We followed a trailer that had Fish Product on board…,
The trailer was leaking liquid salt, or something…
That’s a BIG NO-NO…
Anyway, it got all over the truck and windows…
What a mess…

You don’t pay to get on Prince Edward Island… Yea just pay to get off…
It’s in-and-around 50.00 loonies…
For trucks…
It’s a shame that people who live there have to pay…
At All…
:disagree:

The Island has no rock, so-to-speak…
All construction material has to be transported there…
Concrete and the like…
The soil is red in colour…
Good for growing potatoes…
and producing milk and cheese…
hemp and tobacco
:)
What a way to go…
hehe…

Bill…

EDIT The town of Summerside up west has four windmills that produce 30% of the power they use… (they were working, when we were there) Then at the far western end they have a windmill farm the makes power for the GriD… Most of the power they presently use comes from Gas turbines, in Charlottetown… Too expensive… Power costs a fortune, over there…
