Pitch follows Speed and Speed follows Pitch

Trying to figure out what Pitch follows

On the track properties it has Pitch follows speed and Speed follows pitch and Lock Pitch.
I do not pretend to be a rocket scientist.
Lock Pitch I get the idea but I really do not understand the other two very well , all of it is gorgeously fat real fat almost like real doubling.

, anybody want to explain?? Thanks :)

OK lets try and make sense of this - on the transport bar you have the little clock which you have found gives you three options - pitch follows speed - lock pitch - speed follows pitch -

there are THREE VERSIONS of the speed control - the one on the transport bar is GLOBAL - it effects the speed of the whole song - N track only has one timeline so everything will play at the speed set in the speed selector menu (click in the text that says x1.00 to reveal menu) back to the clock, using the default, pitch follows speed setting if you set the speed to +0.50 (half speed) the pitch of all tracks will drop by one octave -if you alter the speed to +2.00 (double speed) the pitch of all tracks will be raised by one octave - so the pitch of the tracks follow the speed setting - LOCK pitch means that the track will run at whatever speed you enter but the pitch will always be as if the song was running at normal (+1.00) speed - the THIRD option in the clock DOES NOTHING in global mode - it does however work when correctly when treating individual tracks -

as the overall song speed is set by the global settings but you wanr a track within a song to play at a different speed then you have to alter the LENGTH of the track to match the global playback speed -

if you click in a track and select properties then the properties box will open - if not visible click in WAVE FILE PROPERTIES to open that part of the properties box - NOW HERE WE HAVE TWO VERSIONS of the dspeed control - one at the top of the properties box and one in the wavefile properties section - the UPPER speed selector controls THE SPEED OF THE WHOLE TRACK - the LOWER speed selector controls the speed of a PART (clip) within a track - only the lower clock option speed follows pitch works in both cases -

confused ? -

as the timeline runs at a constant speed to make a track within a song play at half speed then the length of the track must be doubled - to make a track within a song plat at double speed then the length of the track must be halved - with the track selected and pitch follows speed selected changing the speed will aotomatically change the length of the track -

now if you only want a part of the track to play at a different speed you first select the track then put the timeline at the start of the section you want to alter and press S on your keyboard (this cuts the track at that point) now do the same for the end of the section - you now have a pert or clip whicher you wish to call it - in the latest build you have to click in another track or empty space in the timeline window then click in the part you have just cut to select THAT PART ONLY - now right click in the part and select UNGROUP - you can now drag that part to another track open its properties and using the LOWER speed control you can set that part at a different speed to the other parts in the track above or from wense it came - altering the speed of this part will set it out of position to the other parts so some re-aranging may be nessacery -

when you click in the speed text and click in the top option from the menu a little box will appear here you can type in the speed you want to alter in 100ths so as long as you keep to plus and minus signs correct you can set the speed to +1.01 or -1.01 (0.99 speed) so on so forth -

Thx for taking the time to formulate those thoughts and the typing involved!
Your a good man, even if your really a rabbit.

Beatrix Potter would be proud!

I usually prefer pitch not follow speed - that way you can slightly “tighten up” a session without mickey mousing the vocals.

:agree: Good tip!

Can you alter the pitch and/or playback per track/item in n-Track these days?

D

Yep…for a while now.

Cool... thanks phoo.

PS You know... I had thought you could... I just couldn't remember for sure. Too much other crap rattlin' around the ol' cranial cavity...

Or not enough rattlin around.
:p

The Rabbit, realy is, Magic :agree:

SLIGHT ALTERATION - to go slower you have to type in the correct format it now has to be -0.99 -0.95 -0.80 etc -
