OPPs
at times i have seen strange numbers like 1.003 - 1.007 etc appear in the playback speed box and thought nothing of them -
while playing about with “SCRUB” i managed to jam the track speed arrow to 1.10 - did mixdown and OPPs
http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee177/eurodog6/myscreenshot-34.jpg
whatever number is in that box - thats what speed the mixdown is rendered at -
may not be the complete answer to tracks being rendered incorrectly - but i will be make sure the box only says 1.00 before doing a mixdown from now on as even a deviation as small as .003 will render the track incorrectly -

Hi Doc J:
What do you think causes the change in the track’s speed…
to show up the “Speed Box” as something different than 1.00 ?
Bill…
That’s it! I went back and checked the .sng files that had the mixdown speed problem and they had the speed set at .99. I set the speed to 1.00 and the tracks rendered with the correct timing. Good catch Dr J.
I pondered why the speed would be set wrong when I generally don’t use scrubbing due to its improper functioning (it stops playback if you linger at zero and then won’t continue scrubbing unless you click play again). I have the transport toolbar placed as part of the main toolbar, just above the top timeline. What I think is happening is that in the normal course of clicking on the timeline it is much too easy to click to the left or right of the scrubbing slider line and each click increments it up or down.
Perhaps the transport scrubbing slider should be relocated to make it harder to click when working the timeline.
Hi Bill - you know its one of those things that is as clear as day when you realise what is going on - but untill yesterday i never realised that mixdown was linked to song speed - it was a real suprise when i mixed down a song at 1.10 to find the mixdown was 10% faster -
i have noticed that the digits after the decimal point change from 2 to 3 digits when you move the playback speed arrow and the suddenly let it go, it should snap back to 1.00 playback speed but once in a while it does go wrong -
although it says adjust playback speed the green double headed arrow is the SCRUB arrow, it does not work correctly as a playback control HOWEVER the two small arrows below it are critical, clicking on these by accident, or just to see what happens will permanently change the playback speed - this is then reflected in the mixdown -
the arrow on the toolbar is global by definition, there is another version of it in every tracks properties box - it is pretty clear what the one does, moving it changes that tracks size - the global one gives no visible indication that anything has been altered -

vivona -
it worked ONCE, but that was a long time ago, in-between the time code bar and the start of the first track is a VERY thin gap, if you move the mouse very slowly down from the code bar the cursor will change from a hand to the normal cursor with a + sign at the right of it - it was in that area that scrub took place -

Hi n-Trackers:
I seem to remember back when all the pro-scrubbers wanted the scrub added to n-Track… They belly-ached till it was added and a week later all of those guys were gone…
I don’t know what happened to them…
I do remember that it didn’t quite work correctly…
I played with it several times and found if you grabbed the scrub just right it seemed to work after a fashion…
It would have been nice to keep Flavio on the scrub feature till it got ironed out…
However, all I can think now is…
Either the scrub works correctly with no issues or the scrub feature has fallen off the end of the earth…
What I’d like to see is…
The Scrub feature be up-dated to something like this…
Mouse-Click on the Scrub Tool-Bar…
It opens an ICON of a wheel that has a “Cursor-Dimple” on it…
You place the cursor on the “Dimple” and turn the wheel in whatever direction you choose and the Time-Line responds to the wheel rotation till you stop crusor’ing the “Scrub Wheel” in whatever direction you turn the wheel…
Then a “Mouse Click” on the Wheel ICON and the Scrub Wheel closes…
A Right-click on the Scrub Wheel will allow the Scrub Wheel to be config’d to a series of Wheel Rotation Speed Settings…
That’s a Scrub Wheel…
In My Opinion…
Bill…
You got it Bill. THAT was the way I wanted SCRUB implemented. A mouse drag-able wheel that ALWAYS snaps back to ZERO! Then this weirdness we are seeing now probably would not happen.
It would also be extremely cool if the “wheel” could be assignable to a MIDI CC number so external control surfaces could be used for SCRUB.
D
PS I don’t know if you have ever used Magix Audio Studio or Samplitude but their implementation of scrub is spot on IMO. It works and works well.
Hi Gentlemen:
Thanks for this thread…
I’m saying this in a SMART way…
and to be nice to Flavio…
Lets light a fire under Flavio and get him on this and make the “SCRUB” feature work on this n-Track Timeline…
You are right on getting this to work with MIDI Tracks as well…
I don’t use n-Track with MIDI tracks on the time line but if MIDI Tracks work on the time line of n-Track then the “SCRUB” should work with all tracks on the Timeline…
Bill…
p.s.
I don’t know where all them Pro-SCRUB guys went… but I’d say they went to an Editor that doesn’t work as well as n-Track does…
Well…
Sorry Gents… I have to say it…
p.s. I don't know where all them Pro-SCRUB guys went.. but I'd say they went to an Editor that doesn't work as well as n-Track does.. Well.. Sorry Gents.. I have to say it..
I was one of the Pro-SCRUB guys.

All I'll say is, I went to an editor that does not work LIKE n-Track and leave it at that. (I left my flame-proof suit at the cleaners.)

I still use and support n-Track and Flavio. No software is perfect.

Sorry to all of you Multi-Trackers…
I think I took too many “SMART” Pills today…
It’ll take some time for them to ware off…
I hope by tomorrow, I’ll be back to something close to normal…
Let’s hope…
It always seems to happen in the fall of the year when my furnace starts to drag all the heating fuel outta that money tank I have to keep me warm…
The price of crude oil has been breaking price records recently…
AND…
the winters are awful long, over here…
Bill…
No sweat Bill. You’re a class act bud. Hang in there!

HI D -
you said “It would also be extremely cool if the “wheel” could be assignable to a MIDI CC number so external control surfaces could be used for SCRUB” -
its in the MIDI fader control setup as ‘jog shuttle’. but guess what ? (well its obvious isnt it) -
if you program it to a rotary control (pot) it just runs one way - i sent the basic formula to Flavio = CCxx value 0 to 63 go left - 64 stay still - 65 to 127 go right - all that had to be added was the speed it worked at -
Dr J
I am a “pro-scrubber” and want this feature to get attention again. Since this thread is about playback speed and mixdown and scrubbing is a bit off topic, I have started a new thread specifically regarding scrubbing. That way we will get the attention of the other “pro-scrubbers” out there. Maybe this time we can get enough momentum to get it fixed.
Hi vivona and n-Trackers:
I think Playback Speed and Scrubbing may be interconnected and work together to some degree…
If these parts of n-Track are not working correctly, they could very well cause other features-and-timing issues and other parts of the timeline behaviours to cause issues…
The proper operation of some computers could be affected more than other machines…
It might even affect how some audio drivers interact with timeline issues set by n-Track…
I just present these ideas as something to consider as there are so many n-Track users with as many different setups…
Bill…
