Problems with vocal playback
I have recorded my voice on Ntracks along with some background music that I uploaded that had been created on fruity loops. My voice seemed to record fine and people could hear it really well during recording phase, but when I went to play it back, it sounds really soft. All the volumes are up. I am not sure if this is an issue with my sound board or with ntracks itself, but any suggestions on what the problem possibly could be and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Holly
The volume you hear when you record is not the same as the volume that gets recorded. When you record you need to increase the volume to get it as “hot” as you can by looking at the recording meter in n-track and adjusting the volume on your mixer or preamp. Make sure it doesn’t hit the red area on the loudest bits.
Once you’ve got the tracks recorded, pull up the n-track mixer and adjust the relative volumes of the tracks until you are happy.
you may be able to save your track by opening a limiter/compressor effect on that channel, open up the track mixer,on the vocal track,at the bottom of the slider there is a fx box, click on it to open it up and find the compressor effect, this can bring your vocal way up in volume, make sure as mark said to make sure you got your hottest signal with no redline or clipping anywhere in the meter chain, adjust the efect as desired.
You might want to go to the Edit > Normalize and run the Scan. This will tell you what volume the track actually record to. If it is way down, you can run the Normalize to raise the volume. I’d aim at about -3 db.
