Reactivation Windows on Your DAW?

DammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmN!

:D
Wow this is rude!
You would think once you buy it that you would own it and care for it in your own way.
Reactivating Windows just when you have everything working just right, mercy!

Hi Levi:

I hear you…

I’m in the process of rebuilding four operating systems…
I have just reinstalled XP on this P-111…
this morning…
I rebuilt the '98SE desk last week…
I now have to reactivate the XP Desk on this P-111…
I hope I don’t run into any issues…
I’ll most likly do it tomprrow…
I’ve just got the outlook express loaded…
Microsoft network applications are a NO-NO amongst most users of n-Track…
However, I’m still using Outlook Express and Internet Explorer…

I always promise myself I’ll never get caught out and rebuild another operating system…
Here-I-Am…
At-it-again…
I have to learn how to “Ghost” a Drive…
I need to find out what application is the choice one
and then…
get-at-it…

I hope you get authorized to use your Operating System…

Keep at it…

Bill…

Hi guys,

Levi - Windows checks the key components in your system (like the cpu, motherboard, etc). If too many (I think it’s three) things change then you have to re-activate. It’s to protect them from folks cloning harddrives after the initial activation and then putting them into different systems.

I seem to remember that the “slate gets wiped clean” every 6 months so providing you don’t change things too often you stay under the radar.

Did you change something recently?

Activation is pretty painless really - just a bit of a drag to do but it only takes a few minutes.

I've tried that. Never managed to make it work. I think you'll find Microsoft got wise to it.

Much better to ghost your drive and keep it safe.

Thx Mark! I changed nTrack reg keys.?.?.?. Not really but I did copy the contents of C to an external drive that I hook up ocassionally. Think that caused this?

I did take it to a tech shop for a goin over.
Maybe they used beefier disks to copy system files from?
I’m not a geek, really, just a picker.

This won't require reinstalling windows will it? I won't loose what I've created will I?

Back Again Gents:

I am progressing right along… I registered and Activated this XP Desk… I was gonna waih till maybe, tomorrow…
However, I went on-line and did-the-deed…
all went just fine… at least…
for me…
The reply came back in …
I’d say… about 10 seconds…

I did…
however, add that m-Audio card to this machine… BUT…
that wasn’t the issue that caused me to have to rebuild this operating system/machine…

I gotta get another machine though…
I don’t have enough machine to get into any VSTi’s or anything like that…
AND I need a Hi-Speed connection to the Internet…
and…
and…

I’m soo far behind the TiMeS…
I’m still at the turn of the century…
1999-to-2000…
You KnOw…

Man make sure you have some anti-virus on before you even do re-activate.
Ya know just registering Toontrack stuff - AVG caught some trojan stuff
trying to get in. Man you can’t go on the NET for five seconds anymore without
some (fill in the blank) trying to screw things up.

The activation Ph number at microsoft for activation by phone is 888-571-2048

No, no re-install required.
Just activate over the internet or by phone.

Might have been caused by something the tech folks did - perhaps they hooked up an internal drive or something.

There is a little tool around somewhere on the internet that tells you what state XP thinks your system is - ie how many hardware items have been changed since activation.
I can’t remember what it’s called right now though.

One more thing chaps. When you build the operating system from the ground-up like Bill is doing, don’t be too hasty to activate it. You get 30 days before you have to activate. During that time you can change hardware and even start again with a rebuild if you want without “wasting” your activation.

Activating Windows - that’s funny. It’s like activating a bomb.

Tell me All About It…

It’s like sticking your toe in the water to find out how hot it is…
I believe that Microsoft invented the pop-up screens…
My task bar is loaded with activation reminders saying that I need to uopdate application-after-application…

Last evening I downloaded SP 3 …
It’s some 66 megs and change.
ON A Dial-Up…
lol…

Two soup cans and a piece of twine would be faster connection…

This morning, I got Panda Security 2009 installed-and-working…
However, It needs to be activated…
So, there’s another pop-up screen on the taskbar…

It’s being built 0’s - -and- 1’s at a time…

What a way to go…
:p
There’s something wrong with all this…
I know it…
I am unable to figure it out…
though…

Bill…

[EDIT]

OooHh…
I forgot…

I’m gonna write some mail over to the Microsoft Survivors…
If they can add a pop-up to the system rebuilders that says…

"
“You’re All Done”…

I’m heating this room that these computers are in…
The modem is smok’in hot…
The insulation is beginning to drip off the phone wire that’s comming into the house…

Everytime I reboot I see the update shield on the taskbar…

It says
“Click here to download these updates”…
The XP Disk I have is dated
July 09/2005…
It cost me $138.88 loonies back then…
I have to wipe the mold off it when I place it in the DVD Drive…

Billie Gates saw me commin’ when I laid out the money for that disk…
I think you can get one of them now for $50.00

:p

Meh... Don't be too hasty. Macs have problems too... besides the ridiculously high cost of hardware that has that stupid Apple logo on it.
