The survey conducted by Cornell University (search) also found that Republicans and people who described themselves as highly religious were more apt to support curtailing Muslims' civil liberties than Democrats or people who are less religious.
The whole premise is absolute ignorance at it's best. This quote in particular is typical of the right wing spin machine. Most people reading this would not even notice that they are calling Democrats a less religious people than Republicans. The fact is that historically Democrats are made up of the working class, ethnic people including Irish, Italian, Polish, Hispanic and Black. These groups are very religious and certainly outnumber the perported religious, wealthy, upperclass, self appointed Christians. GRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrr.
