Guilty of the cardinal sin.
Hi, people. I’ve been trying to run a ReWire app with n. It works well on
6.0.8. But I broke the golden rule of closing n before closing the app and now it’s jammed in the song I was working on. I’ve tried shutting it down in the task manger, re-installing n, umpteen re-boots and a system restore all to no avail. It appears to be on channel 15 but now I’m at the end of my abilities.
Any wise words?
That’s wild - So the ReWire channel opens automatically when you start N
all the time?
Hi 7. How’re you diddlin’?
Yup! Then I have to shut it down - again - when I close the song or nT.
(PS. Watching an incredible prog on BBC4 on Eno)
This is gettin’ a bit heavy now. I can’t get rid of the f%%%r!
It’s happened on a quite complicated track that had started to take shape.
Bummer.
Can you open the song then close the ReWire app, then save the .sng again?
Yup. It still won’t go away.
Ok - I ReWired a Reaper channel into the demo song on N.
And you seem to be correct. Once a ReWire channel is added, then saved
in a .sng, there does not seem to be a way of removing
I don’t know that much about ReWire, but maybe Flavio could advise.
It seems there should be an option to remove the ReWire channel from
an existing .sng or some method of doing so.
Hi 7. Yup. The prob must be in the sng file. And to make it worse (check on your demo) once the prob happens, you can no longer use Reason. Which is crap. I’m trying to work out how to copy the song over to a new ID because that seems safe on tests - as in, There doesn’t seem to be a prob with either prg when shut down correctly (app before host)
I contacted Flavio who suggested that I remove it from the mixer but only the tracks that I recorded in n-T are there - no sign of the ReWire.
7!!! Would you please check if you can see Reaper in your n-T mixer? Cheers.
Yes - there is nothing to remove.
For example - If you:
Open N, open the demo song, add ReWire channel (in my case Reaper),
dont’ even add a track in Reaper, then in N, save song as 'SOMENAME.sng’
then close like N asks you to by closing the ReWire app first -
The next time you open SOMENAME.sng then the ReWire app opens. Which is
what you would expect. However, if you wanted stop the ReWire app from
opening in the future (for whatever reason) - there is nothing in N to
say "Don’t open the ReWire app when I open SOMENAME.sng anymore"
This is with ver 6.0.6 build 2514
Cheers 7. Exactly the same here on 2549.
Plus, it seems as though, once you’ve made the ‘closure routine’ error, it’s no longer possible to re-launch the ReWire app within n-T.
Meanwhile. Opened a new sng, ‘imported all tracks’ from original, (so far so good - no ReWire bug) but once I import the template, up pops the ReWire and n goes mad and crashes!
Wish I hadn’t done it to the original
Hmm!? I daren’t try it at the mo’, and I’m a bit busy with other stuff but if you right click in the master channel, the option to ‘show’ ‘re-wire’ channel is ‘off’ by default.
Later:-)
Cheers 7. Exactly the same here on 2549.

Until you guys get this sorted out it is possible to reconstruct the song from the wav. files provided you recorded them to a click track.
It won't have all the mixing settings and FX the original song file had, but at least you will not have to record the tracks again.
actually had a similar problem a few years back with Reason, Rewire, and N'track it was like the dynamic duo, CRASH! and then couldn't open the File again...freeze. it was quiet some many years and builds ago (maybe 2.3?)so I don't remember how it got solved....sorry

keep shinin

Why not open it.
Remove the thingy.
Save as something else.
Then delete the old song file?
I think there is a definate problem with ReWire.
Normally, you should be able to remove the ReWire channel from the TRACK MIXER.
The problem is that (in build 2514 anyway) if you add a ReWire app (Reaper)
and select ReWire Channels 1&2 (Master) and a couple of other channel pairs, they
do not show up in the nTrack TRACK MIXER. There is a channel strip space, but it
is blank.
So essentially, the (right mouse click) “Show ReWire Channels” in BOTH the MASTER MIXER, and the TRACK MIXER does not seem to work.
-with one exception: If I have the MASTER MIXER set to 'Show ReWire Devices’
before I add a ReWire Channel, then the ReWire Master will show up in the MASTER
MIXER. But it still does not show up in the TRACK MIXER.
Can anyone duplicate this?
EDIT - Another interesting thing is that if you save the .sng and
reopen it, then go to (on the toolbar) EDIT/SONG information, and
scroll down, you will see the rewire channels as GROUP # so and so
(so it seems this info is saved in the .sng file)
Exactly, SoE - that’s it in a nutshell. Cheers Jerm, Levi.
I’ve just about rebuilt the peice now from the parts which had me half filling a notepad. But!? The song seems to have a few residual bugs that maybe you guys can shine some light on? :-
(1)If I hit G3 on the keys on trk 5, the left drum fader drops to near zero?
(2)If I touch any fx parameter, all instument channels swap places?
Just an update -
On another system which I have nTrack 6.0.7 build 2526 installed:
The ReWire works fine. The channels DO show up in both MASTER MIXER
and TRACK MIXER - so was just a version fluke as far as I can tell.
Goes to show - always use a later / latest build before spinning wheels.
You got it there, buddy.
Fixed channel fader issue by defauting midi settings.
Hi people.
Everything you guys mentioned was relative and I rebuilt the song with renamed wavs and midi copies. Sorted the rewire thang by right-clicking for two weeks. 7! You can get rid of it, but don’t ask me how because I can barely remeber my own …?
The track I’m working on is the first ‘songy’ song (guitars and melodic voices) that I’ve done in years. It’s roots are 5 midi:-1)n-Tdrums,2)bass,3)bass,4)piano,5)random noise. All converted to wavs at various stages but not all always in the song. Then there are 12 or so sparse audio tracks with cpu comfy at 25%.
One thing I haven’t managed to fix is the 5 midi tracks/channels from jumping around whenever I do several things including anything midi and re-opening the song. Ch10 for drums, 1 bass etc but the vst instruments keep swapping places? I’ve been messing around with midi for (gulp) about thirty years and I don’t pretend to fully understand it but I can usually get to the bottom of these little buggars. Not this time!? It’s driving me madder.
It can’t be 2553, because parts of the track are months old.
Any ideas?
