Saw a great pub band this week… only they were in a large local music venue and we’re celebrating 40 years in the music business.
Rossi & Parfitt can still rock.
The songs were great - minimal chat and fuss between songs.
No gimics, plain stage, no fireworks, no over-the-top light show. Just a bunch of guys playing great music and really enjoying it.
It really was a pub gig in a large venue.
The boys really managed to keep it real. They even made a few mistakes but just took it in their stride and made fun of it.
Quo’s audience profile has really changed over the years.
There were guys in suits, OAP, balding men, and me.
Fantastic.
Support band was Manfred Mann.
Also excellent.
Not what I was expecting (“Do wah diddy”).
Much more rock, fusion, almost jazz in places.
They played the favourites (Blinded by the light, Do wah diddy, etc, ) but all with a new, fresh arrangement.
Happy Christmas
I’ll bet that was a nice night out…
These guys must be showing their age…
Are they all the same guys…
or…
has the stage changed with new kids coming up through?
If it the same stage…
Manfred Mann.
?
These guys… I remember from way back…
They got a lot of Air Play around here…
Bill…
Hi Bill,
Quo is still basically Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt. They have the same guys that have played keys & bass with them for ages (after Lancaster and Coghlan left). The drummer is newish as far as I can tell. I knew Francis Rossi’s eldest son for a while and from what I can tell Francis is just at home in his garden as he is on the stage.
As for Manfred Mann, obviously they have Manfred on key, and Mick Rogers on guitar. I think they are the only originals. They bass player and singer were superb. The whole band worked really well together without Mr Mann being the “big guy” - he “just” played keyboards (excellently I should add).
Rossi & Parfitt are still great. Seen them many times over the years. My favourite gig used to be at Bridlington Spa which they used to use as a warm up gig for the bigger venues. The place held around 600 people and had a great atmosphere. Saw them in Dubai a couple of years ago.
Rossi is really a great Rock n’ Roll guitar player and Rick Parfitt is an amazing Rythmn guitarist, Rhino on Bass has become part of the classic Quo for me, he has a great stage personality and I prefer him to Alan Lancaster…
Love 'em.

Yeah, this was the third time I'd seen them but the last time was 20 years ago!
Rhino has been in the band for as long, if not longer, than Lancaster now I think. I was really surprised at how old Rhino his (55 according to Wikipedia). He has the energy and looks of someone 20 years younger.
Mind you, who can ever forget "Lancaster" in the Rocking All over the world video?

I'm not familiar with Quo, but I saw Manfred Mann's Earth Band opening for Black Sabbath in Johnson City sometime back in the 70s. I liked them better than I expected, but of course, Black Sabbath was the reason I was there.
