Where is the setting to control the screen focus during playback? When I scroll horizontally away from where current position I am automatically returned to the area where the audio is playing. I do not want to be returned to the area that is playing but left alone to search the timeline. I’ve changed this setting in the past but for the life of my can’t find it.

you have to toggle the “Auto scroll timeline” option from the “Transport” menu on top.
Yes, thank you! That’s the setting I wanted. I wish I would asked a long time ago. I’ve looked several times but kept looking through the View and Settings menus for that setting.
